GP2 : car failure ...

Does the car failure options affext just you or all cars?

I hadn't seen a car "blow" in many races, then turned on all failures
and in the very next race while running second to Hill I was (very)
pleasantly surprised to see his engine blow, leaving a long trail of
smaoke behind :-)    Probably just an oil leak spilling out and burning
as he didn't slow much, but plenty to let me pass.   Driving behind
him with no visibility was a pain though ... but that made me all
the keener to see weather effects in GP2 :-(

To quote from the manual, page 41, Car Realism Menu:

"Note: These selections are for the player's car.  Computer cars cannot
turn them off."

It hasn't happened to me yet, but others on r.a.s. have had their car fail on
them.

If there are flames and smoke coming out of Hill's rear, it's an oil leak.  If
it's just smoke, then it's an engine failure.  Either way, it's terminal - or
has anyone been able to get to the pits in time to see if oil leaks/blown
engines can get fixed?  (I've seen computer cars have suspension failures fixed
in the pits)

Me too!  I'd even be satisfied with just the same old mist effect that was in
WC/F1GP.

Flames can be an engine failure, they start off like smoke from tyres,
then after a while the smoke thickens/darkens and the flames make an
appearance.

You can have engine failures fixed :(  I was tearing round Parabolica
when my engine let go.  I limped back to my pit stall.  8 seconds
later the fire was put out, the engine "fixed" and I`m on my way
again!
