GP2 car failure repairs

I have been playing GP2 for some time now, and have had numerous occasions
of the car going out of race because of car problems.

Yesterday I was unfortunate enough to have a transmission failure while
in the lead. Because I was close to the pit, so I radioed in and slowly
coasted in. Amazingly the crews were able to fix a transmission in 10
seconds! Although I didn't win because I lost a lot of time, but I finished
the race!

Not that I am complaining, but a real simulation shouldn't let this happen.
Ok, a loose wheel or puncture is no big deal, but a transmission? I am
wondering whether the super-crews will fix a smoking Yamaha engine in under
10 seconds...

Any similar experiences or stories?

Yes, I've had this happen a number of times to me, even when the engine is
smoking - if it's not too far from the pits, they'll have it fixed in <10 sec -
magic those mechanics are :)

I've also seen it happen to the computer cars lots of times. In my current
season (modified with a 97 car set), out of the 3 races so far, the 2 Williams
cars have had 6 problems, 4 of which were fixed in the pits and in one case a
car went on to win the race.

I'm pretty sure if you make it to the pit for *any* kind of failure in
gp2, the pit crew will *fix* it in pretty rapid time?

If you wanted to make it more realistic you could have sat in the pit
lane for another 10.....15........20.......30 minutes?

The most impressive failures are the oil leaks or engine failures, which
usually result in loss of power, smoke from the rear of the car, and
ultimately flames bursting out of the car!!!!!!

Had an engine BLOW! Smoke. Flames. The whole schmeel.
Coasted into the pit, 10 sec. later, racing. Damn but those pit guys
are good! :-)

No matter what the repair is engine, transmission whatever all repairs in GP2
take 10 seconds.  Most unrealistic.
Just think of it as a minor repair, for instance in you case you could think
that your problem was a faulty gear change and all you needed was a change of
steering wheel. <g>.

It was qualifying on Imola. I was in my outlap and driving a Williams, I
still quickly got closer and closer to a Lotus. Then, WHOOOOOOOM, it's
engine blew right in front of the pit entry.

But.... instead of entering the pit, the Lotus took a left turn and
continued it course on the track. Intrigued I followed and had to step on
it to keep up.

Seems a blown engine only creates smoke, but no real problems on a Lotus.

P.S. Lotus come back in 1999 to F-1!!!!!!!

I've only had gearbox problems once on Hockenheim. And that's all the
failures I've experienced. Even when driving the track in first gear flat,
I couldn't blow my engine, or destroy the clutch or gearbox. Weird.

But the most spectacular is a tire blow! I've seen a replay of one at high
speed, resulting in a spin and the car actually bends over to the side of the
flat tire!!! Talking about realism....

Arrrrrr, but have you got the car realism menu (in the drive options
screen) set so that all the car failure option are OFF? if they are ON
then you will encounter more breakdowns?
