Hi Simon,

I presume you mean at full Realism settings for computer opponents as
well?

Interesting ... I checked out your replay and it seemed you were
braking very late. I couldn't figure out how you were doing it. So I
went and turned off the manual trasmission ... and suddenly it seemed
like my braking power was doubled! Now no matter how hard I brake I
can't lose the back end.

For some wierd reason turning off the manual transmission seems to
seriously affect the braking model. Have you experienced this
phenomenon? Or can you get similar times with manual gear shifting?

Sorry, my mistake. It's not the manual transmission, it's the
auto-situp that's increasing braking power. Which makes sense I guess,
it would keep the back of the bike weighed down. Previously I hadn't
been using the situp button at all. Anyone else who isn't using it,
take note - you have to sit up to get the maximum braking effect
without lifting your rear wheel.

Tells you that in the manual but if your like me you tend to play a game
for days before discovering the manual.

I have run a few races with manual tranmission, but I'm not good enough with
it yet to last a whole race without crashing. So for the purpose of the
replay, I raced with automatic.

I'm not sure about braking differences, I'll have to check that out. BTW,
you'll notice I qualified first. I managed to get a 1:30 time in qualifying,
though I think my fastest race time there was about 1:33.

I do brake late, but I try to get all my braking done before entering the
corner and I try to let the brake off smoothly to avoid loading the front
end. Other tricks I learnt of that track is to take the uphill section wide
and try and straighten up while going through the two left kinks after the
bridge. (Took me many times to do them fast without sliding.) The hairpin is
another place where you can make up a lot of time over the AI riders. They
tend to take a slow wide line, where as I like to brake deep, turn quick,
straighten up and get on the gas as quick as possible.

My technique for learning the courses is quite simple: Drive round slowly
without using you brakes, this helps you find the best lines. You be
surprised just how smoothly you can lap like this, and it's tyre friendly.
When you can do a reasonable qualifying time without braking (or minimal)
you can start to push it and use the brakes.

Si.

PS. For that Donington race, I think my settings were: front preload +2,
rear preload +1, front tyre soft B, read hard A, rake minimum. Ridden from
over-the-shoulder view.

Guys I am enjoying the SBK posts.  I thought that sitting up on the bike
under braking was more of an aero thing, like drag to help slow the bike.
This sim is still way cool, despite a lot of criticism of driving (riding)
model.  For sure it is the best available now.  I wonder if everybody who
is posting their impressions is on the same page though (action v.
simulation), various aids on/off?  I suspect not.  I have sent an e-mail to
a gent called "Mea***er" asking him to investigate the SBK sounds ( he has
done sound packs for others like GPL and EAW) to see if something could be
done for a couple bikes (Like the Kaw) and the crashing sounds (broken
glass).  No SBK sites yet, other than EA's.

Cheers,

Tom Petersen

all my posted thaughts we're in full sim mode (no aids)

http://www.racesimcentral.net/
this is my attempt to setup a online SBK racing leauge.
no promices that it will work 100% due to internet lag and I hear its not that
great of a game on modem or IPX but its worth a try I think.
