Will DOS Rendition Indycar II work with Windows 98 Second Edition? Any help
would be greatly appreciated.

For the uninformed (or partially informed), Win2000 is not the next
evolution of the Win95/OSR2/OSR2.1/98/98se family. Win2000 is the next
iteration of WindowsNT and was previously referred to as WindowsNT5. It
takes some steps to make NT more user-friendly, but it won't be trying to be
a *** OS.

The product you need to be waiting for is Windows Millennium. This will be
the OS that follows Windows98se and will be targeted towards the home user
and *** enthusiast. I don't know offhand if the MS-DOS Prompt will still
be lurking beneath the shell, but the whole OS is not much more than a
serious service pack for Win98, so I would guess the C:\ will still be
there.

Millennium has no DOS code. Think of it as Windows 98 Special Edition 2000.
Should rock for newer Windows games.. but will suck for DOS games. you can
check www.betanews.com for more info about Millennium. Or hook up with an
IRC channel and DL the latest beta.

Heck I couldn't even get my old system updated to SE with the
Rendition card(Diamond Stealth II S220) I could never get the drivers
properly installed to allow anything other than 640x480 desktop.
Finally gave up and put Win95 back on.

Windows 95 and later are not shells. 3.X was a DOS shell but not win9X.

The interface is referred to as a shell. Call it an interface if it makes
you happy. For instance, they started using the Win95 "shell" with NT4.

BTW..if we boot win95/98 to just a prompt with no GUI does that mean the
whole OS is gone?

Don,

I am running DOS Rendition CART under DOS mode of Win98 SE. It works
fine. What problems are you having? I am using the "Monkey1.bat" and
"Monkey2.bat" system to start the game in order for it to work with my
Stealth II. If you need info on that (I found it on the web
somewhere)--let me know.
