That and EA just dumped, how many employees? I have been beta testing
another of their products, that will never see the public. :-(

Don't start me on EAOL ...

I loved Need For Speed.  The whole series, up to an including Porsche.
It was what got me into racing games/sims.  Well, that and Lotus
Esprit Turbo Challenge :-)

But from what I read when the game was in development, I never
bothered with MCO.  It sounded like the worst thing a driving game
could be.  No practice racing, only playable online (I'm too scared to
take GPL online yet, I've only had it a couple of months.  Oh, and my
brother keeps trouncing me on The Monz.  Like by a second per lap.)
and they charge you for the priveledge (!?).

NFS4 was good.

I played it in beta, and I did not enjoy it. There was nothing in the game
to make me want to buy the retail, much less spend $10 a month to play it. I
don't mind online games, I have played EQ for about 2 years. But they have
to have something special that you can't get from a single player game, and
to me MCO doesn't offer anything that I can't get from any other net
playable game.
And besides, I hate the cars of the '60s (my opinion, if you like them, then
fine, play the game).

Having read all the previous post, I will weigh in. I got MCO last week and
signed up and to be honest am having a blast. Yes, it is not a sim like GPL
or N4 (and I am a diehard N4 racer, own my league as a matter of fact), but
after you spend a few days in it, build up a better car, get to level 5
(took maybe 4 hours total, overl a couple days to get to Lvl5) you get more
money every week (paycheck) and you get more tracks.

$10 a month? Thats right, $10 a month. Scares a lot of folks off, good, more
bandwidth for the rest of us. The way I look at this is what else could I
spend $10 a month on that allows me to "play" (again, *** N4 fan, I
need downtime from serious OL racing too) whenever I want for however long I
want. $10 anywhere else might get you into a movie that will last 2 hours,
won't even buy a music CD, might get lunch for 2 at Burger King. No, $10 a
month for unlimited server time in a "game" is worth it to me so long as the
game performs like it should. When I used get bored, I tended to go look at
computer goodies at Best Buy. That always cost me more than $10 a month,
with MCO I can go login and probably *lose* and hour or two and it not cost
me more than $0.33 a day. Good economics in my house.

Maybe I'm not so hung up on money because I already pay for an N4 server, a
web hosting account for my N4 league, several ISPs, etc. Another $10 just
isn't that big of a deal really.

The game play is fine, there are bugs, sure. Someone show me the absolute
bug free patch for N4. Papy said it was done with N4, MCO looks for patches
everytime you login. If EA is sturggling and MCO folds, guess what, they
can't charge you anymore for services they aren't providing, so EA's
troubles are not a legitimate excuse for not trying it. Neither is the
money, your first month is free. Sure you have to get the game, but how many
games do you have onthe shelf that you paid $40 for that you played a little
and haven't run since or at least in a long while? Several Im sure. Mine are
N3, N3 CTS, and NHeat.

Im not trying to defend MCO, or start any argument. MCO is not a sim and
truly doesn't belong in r.a.s. just like NHeat and a few others, but hey, it
has wheels and you can drive it. Just think of what you can really get for
$10 a month somewhere else before you bash MCO. I'm sure if you could run on
a GPL or N4 server 24/7/365 you'd pay $10 a month for it and you can't
upgrade you car, lol.

Just some thoughts, I like MCO. It is the best car *game* to come along in a
while.

I played the beta for a few weeks.
To be honest, if you really must have a racing game with tuneable muscle
cars in it, you may as well get gran turismo 2 and a psone to play it on-
can't cost more than the outlay and a few months subs to MCO...

cheers

I think you have to look at MCO differently than NROS.  It's really a
different concept.

They had better make money.  I heard in an interview that their servers cost
$500,000 EACH!

Well, I disagree with that.

There's nothing wrong with subscriptions, as long as there is a certain
level a quality available.

Just take a pole here in RAS, and ask how many would, or would not, be
willing to start coughing up $10 a month again to run N4 under the SAME
setup we had with NROS.

I think you would be suprised by what you find...

Now there you go, SimRacer.  Making a post that's concise, informative, and

What will we do :)

Thanks for the info!

Doooh.... Sorry I beta-tested it and there are AI cars, if you join a
sponsored race set for 4 cars and there are only three humans, the third
spot is filled in...

As for the appreciation of the game it's been already stated by previous
posts...

I did kind of enjoy building a car up but the worst part was the auctions
where you'd spend hours monitoring to be robbed at the last second.

For me the $ they ask is way too much... I would have been ready to cash $20
for the box and not more than $5/month.

Denis
