I picked it up tonight.  Looks like a decent diversion from all things Sim
for a change...

However, I'm concerned.  I haven't seen any postings on MCO.

Is it being totally ignored by the public?

I hope not :)

Well it's being ignored by us, *** simmers.  I haven't seen any post
since the open beta of MCO.  As for the mass, I couldn't care less.  I
couldn't see MCO being a success from my experience with the NROS, and my
opinion hasn't changed.

Well, then, that decides it.  MCO is no good and to be avoided at all costs.
It must be GPL or N4.  Otherwise, it's not even worth consideration.

I myself enjoy racing sims rather than arcade sims.  But there are more
quality racing sims other than GPL and N4.  You'd never know that, by the
looks of the majority of the responses in this group.

And no, I'm not a troll.  I'm sure there are many more who feel the same way
that I do, who have gone to other boards to discuss other games, rather than
coming here and listening to the same rehashed nonsense about GPL this and
N4 that, along with a smattering of CART talk.

It was ignored once we all found out that there was a $40 initial price tag
then a $10 /month tag for online play there after.

Initial online release is supposed to have limited part upgrades with more
being released over time

Sounds like a rip off to us....(or me anyway)

I can't speak for anyone else, but *I'm* ignoring it.  I don't have any desire
in a 'pay-to-play' game...

Being ignored doesn't make it bad per-so.  You conclude too fast.

What you posted wasn't trollesque at all, in fact it was quite rationale,
and is close to my opinion of MCO.  But considering this is
rec.autos.simulators, we naturally talk about more serious simulations, no?

Even if it was free, it's a piece of crap. At least it was in last days of
the beta.
It's a game for those who have time to spend several hours a day racing a
little bit and using most of the time getting parts and building their cars.
The worst thing is how the cars handle. But maybe it is realistic. I don't
know but maybe a '66 Shelby Cobra handled that bad in the real world.
NFS PU is far better, and if they had a little better online racing with
cups and stuff..........
But MCO can off course get better. They will ad tracks and cars on a regular
basis. If someone buys it that is.
I don't think it was "finished" the day they released it. The lag was
terrible, you could never know for sure if you was leading the race or not.
Cars was jumping all over the place like in NFS PU if someone has a bad
connection. You would crash into a car just to find out after the finish
that other car could not possibly be there. It finished 50 seconds before
you, it just took a jump back to block your way for a split second. :)

I have ZERO problems paying for playing, but what I read so far is
that it's a step backwards from NFS:PU which I liked very much.
I haven't read a single positive review yet about MC Online, not from
'hardcorde simmers' and not from the more arcade oriented public.

Still, I loved Hot Rod 1 & 2 on the Amiga, and I keep hoping MC Online
comes close to the fun factor of those games.

I played the open beta a bit almost to the end of the beta but found myself
bored with it quickly. Interesting concept but the reality tended to be a
bunch of chats rooms with a bit of car racing in it. The raceing tended to
be hours (in 5-8 minute sessions)of slogging alone  around a time trails
track trying to earn  enough to buy some decent parts or ,on pretty much the
same track, racing against several *extremely* warpy other players with cars
flying around like Autumn leaves. It was more like those bumper cars that
used to be in the circus midway than any simulation of raceing. The effort
to build a car was interesting enough to keep me engaged for a while though
and if they were to fix the warpiness I'd probably try it out again.
Hopefully you'll find at least one of the chat rooms in MCO has a level of
conversation above the "Fords suck. Yeah! and Chevie rulz!" tripe.

Good luck

<snip depressing post>

Well.. thanks for sharing, I was affraid it would be like that :(
Now the stupid question of the day: is it -only- multiplayer or can
you also drive against AI? Is the driving model indeed a step
backwards from NFS:PU, ie more like NFS4?

There are no AI.

You can race alone against the clock or against up to 3 other players.
Fortunately you can race with a sponsored car so you don't mess up your own
when you hit the walls or other cars. This way you can earn money even if
your not an ace yet, instead of losing more money on repairs than you win.

I have not tried NFS 4, but I doubt it as bad as MCO?

MCO is NFS:HS + chat rooms + eBay.  The economic
aspects of the title tend to swamp the actual
gameplay.  There are much better (and less costly)
diversions available.  Street Rod 3 is supposedly
coming out soon.... :)

Don't hold your breath.. Street Rod 3 is longer in the making than
WSC.. it's a hobby project from a couple of guys.

Fair enough.  Should SR3 ever arrive, it looks
like a better bet than MCO.  The real message here
is that MCO is a costly stinker.  Which may
explain why it is being ignored.
