F1GP Record times

by David Bun » Sat, 27 May 1995 04:00:00

I have a query about claimed F1GP record times. Do indivdual computers
time laps either slightly quicker or slightly slower? Is there any
difference in the accuracy of the timing between a PC and an Amiga? Are
the timings that are made totally legitamate - ie no skipping corners
(for example as is possible in Hockenheim)? Is there reason do believe
the software has not been tampered with to increase the power of the car
as this doesn't seem to hard, which would lead to fast times.

: I have a query about claimed F1GP record times. Do indivdual computers

No, all computers yield similar laptimes. However, driving with
a higher frame rate makes it easier to react correctly, but
that very much depends on the preferences of the driver..

: Is there any
: difference in the accuracy of the timing between a PC and an Amiga?

Yes, certain tracks are much faster on the Amiga ( over 1 second i.e ).
This may be because of different time measurement mechanisms or,
more probably, because the car grips stronger on the Amiga.
Recent developments showed that this extra-high grip also
applies to some older versions of the PC-F1GP. Only v1.04 and
v1.05 are supposed to use the "normal" grip settings.

If you read through the rules, you will find that all these methods
of attaining a faster time are forbidden. Several drivers have
submitted their telemtry data from Gpperf, an utility for F1GP,
and can be downloaded to compare with your own data. This should
show you any big differences in speed and time.
( Rating : Very Helpful indeed   :)    )

No - not on the Amiga anyway, and I would think the same is true for the
PC too.  Different speed computers should not affect lap times.

I'm not sure about this one as I don't have a PC, but from what I gather
there is a slight difference, possibly due to slightly different tracks???

These things are mentioned in the HoF, but it can not be guaranteed that
people don't cheat.  But, I don't think there are any major cheats in the
Amiga HoF, as I never cheat and I get pretty close to the top times, and
I'm sure it's possible to beat them with practice.
