F1Gp - Strange Performance

Someone might like to solve this strange problem I have.

I have a 2 PC's .

One is a Tandon 486/33 with 8mb of memory and no special
graphics or sound cards using a SVGA Tandon monitor.

The other is a Compaq Pentium XL560 (50mhz) with 16mb of memory and a graphics accelerator card and compaq sound card with an EIZO T560i-T 17" monitor.

The weird thing is that given the same setup on both, for F1GP ( including
frame-rates etc ) the Tandon is quicker. In fact the game is much more
playable than on the COMPAQ. Why ?  I would have thought the reverse.

If I play F1GP on the COMPAQ the graphics during a race are frustratingly
slow, on the Tandon it's superb.

... on the other hand DOOM is very very quick on the Compaq and a dog on the
Tandon.  I fail to understand this.

Ian.

PS I'm no PC amateur , so quality replies please.
