Nascar/Indycar Frames per Second

by Craig Parso » Sat, 08 Apr 1995 04:00:00

Hello,  Can someone tell me how to find out what the frames per second
I get when running Nascar or Indycar.  Someone told me once to go to the
replay screen and watch the clock, the numbers after the seconds will be
the frames per second.  I don't think this is true as I have tried this
on a few different systems and I always get the numbers counting from 14
to 0.  Same is true running in SVGA mode and I know that my FPS is quite
low here because of the choppiness of the video.

Thanks!

I think you might be refering to my response.  I now use the detail
options screen to turn on detail that i really need and i put the
grandstand on auto. I then set the minium frame rate to a low number.
During a race, the grandstand will 'turn on' if your machine can sustain
the set frame rate. Gradually increase the minium frame rate till the
grandstand stays off. When your frame rate is 'on the edge' it will blink
on and off depending on how much 'set on' detail is in the frame. Your
minium frame rate will vary greatly depending upon what detail you have
on.
Because of this game, I have since upgraded my machine to a AMD486-100
with a cache controller and a 2 meg VLB video card .  With a half field,
and about 2/3 total detail, i'm lucky to get 24 frames per sec. But i'll
say, it's a lot easier to drive. I still don't have a wheel, but as soon
as the o'l lady simmers down from my upgrade, i will.

p.s. Sorry for that bum first response, i must have had serious brain fade
from racing NASCAR too much.
