I have news on GP3

by Adste » Sun, 24 Jan 1999 04:00:00

About 1 month ago I was chatting to somebody running a Microprose Stand at a
computer show.

He has given me some info on GP3, some of which you will all like and some
of it you won't.

3DFX / Direct 3d support
Force Feedback support
Weather effects
Pace Car
Formation lap
Pit lane limiter
Jump starts possible
Improved AI
New Physics model
New sound system
Better crashes.

It will not be out until Christmas 1999 and Geoff Crammond will not be
bullied into releasing it until he is 100% happy.

It will be based on the 1996 cars (Honestly, they have been developing the
game for so long that the car models have become completely out of date but
it would take too long to re-do them)

The licence was applied for 1996 season and even though the FIA have still
yet to approve it, when they do only 1996 names and cars/tracks will be
permissable.

There will not be any screenshots available until the FIA approve the
licence.

One other bit of good news however is that there may be a built in car
editor.

This has come from a member of the development team directly so is not a
rumour of just wishful thinking.

Hope you find this interesting.

Sounds great.

I can live with that. GPL should have me more than occupied until then.
It would be nice to see Crammond get a chance to put out the product he
wants without cutting corners.  The realities of the software industry
make this next to impossible, however.

That is the same year as the original Ubisoft F1RS.  If Ubisoft got an
exclusive license than Crammond might have to rethink this.  Anybody
know the nature of Ubisoft's license?

That should make it much easier for all the great carset artists out
there.  And if the license falls through, Crammond can go the route of
Monaco Grand Prix (F1RS2) and let the user fix it himself.

Definitely.  Thanks for posting.

I think there is flexibility with the licence because Playstation got away
with F1 based on the 95 season and so was Power f1 e.t.c.
