I need help setting my initialization string for modem-modem play. I have
an AVTEK 28.8k modem (CD990) and my friend has an X-LINK 33.6k modem. We
want to link up and play against each other, but have not been very
successful yet. Apparently you need to disable compression. Is this true
????

Look in your respective modem manuals. They list the commands needed
to disable error correction, disable data compression, reset factory
defaults, and set baud rate. It's not that hard, but if you need to
know the format of the init string, email me - I just got through
doing it. A word of caution, however: The init string has NOT
solved my problems with multiplayer. As a matter of fact, I can
confidently say that the modem is correctly set up, but a bug in the
game keeps me from racing my buddy over the modem. Good luck to you.
