N4: detail distance

When running N4, I have noticed that there is what I would call a
detail distance. In other words, say if a billboard in turn 2 is 200
feet away, I can see it, but it is blurry...when I get right up on it,
the billboard is crisp, clear and very detailed. Is there a way to set
this detail distance or is it preset in the game?  I have tried the
world detail setting, and have it maxed, but no difference. Im running
a P3-800 w/128mb ram and a GeForce2 MX.
Thx

I would like the answer to this one too. The AI cars are also blurry
until you get close up to them. I think my system can handle more
detail than this so there should be an option somewhere to change it.

It is the OpenGL settings that cause that.  If you change them, you will see
a drop in frame rate...down to about the same level as the D3D option.  Most
of the so-called OpenGL frame rate advantage is due to its lower quality
default settings.

You could try switching to D3D or play around with the all the advanced
options in your video card settings.  I couldn't stand to use OpenGL until I
figured out these adjustments.  It will look great, though, when you are
done.

Marc.

...

Sounds like mipmapping. Try turning it off, if the option is there.

That's normal, as IIRC the GF2 can't do full screen anti-aliasing unless
it's an option on your card and you enable it.

What does that have to do with FSAA? He is talking about low detail
textures being used and then popping up into high detail textures when
you get closer. Many games do that to gain frame rate, but N4 uses low
detail textures too close to your view, IMO.

Ever since going to the new patch
I can't run in open gl and if memory serves correctly
u can only get Specular Highlights checked off in options when open gl is on
not d3d and also when u have that option checked your mirror is solid not
broken in 3 boxes where its hard to see, any ideas on that ?
