Hawaii Replays - how do they work???

by Eric Jane » Thu, 11 Jul 1996 04:00:00

Hi all,

I have a question for ya all, how the heck do the replays on
hawaii work? Every time I try to view a replay it goes to a "live" picture
and it won't let me rewind. Is this normal? or do I have a problem with my
system or setup?

Thanks for your time,

Eric

Sounds like a setup problem. I've been able to review replays on Hawaii.
Maybe you don't have enough memory or your disk cache is eating it up.

We just discovered the other night that you can use the in-car camera view
with the "live feed" to ride along with another driver. With a DSVD modem,
it's almost like having a live spotter. I was also able to give the other
guy driving tips while he was driving, ("Turn in... NOW! Throttle... NOW!",
etc). You can use the external cams to act as a spotter.  We were
modem-racing at the time, but it should also work on Hawaii, although you
may lose the car periodically due to bandwidth limitations. Now all we need
is a way to do this without entering a race, and be able to setup the pit
stops while yacking over a DSVD modem and then we can have spotters and
crew chief.

NOW YOUR TALKING (hehe pun).  I can see the teams forming now.  Now when
someone gets trashed into the pits they can SPOT for there teamates...

THis is also a great way for people to learn the tracks. I have gotten
some very fast drivers at Watkins to provide me with replays and learned
more in 10 minutes than I had in two hours of practice.  By hitting shift
you can see the speed, this really helps.

I don't know about the DSVD part, but I discovered the Live action replay during our
Michigan test when the Hand of God bug got me.  I started watching the replay and
when I fastForwarded, it would FF to a point beyond where I had started
watching..then I realized I was actually watching a Live replay of the race as it
was going...Not the most economical use of a phone bill, but interesting none the
less.

I remember after you got HOGGED, you were chatting about stuff that was
going on in the race , and I figured you were watching the replay. Didn't
occur to me at the time that the you could watch the replay in real-time
and get the in-car views. Pretty expensive way to view the action though...

Ready for Atlanta, Ken?
