GPL and V-Raptor

I have been trying to decide on a video upgrade card.  The pre***
opinion seems to be the Thriller 3d is the one to get.  I have done some
research and there is another Rendition 8meg board out there.  Genoa
V-Raptor.
1)  Does anyone out there have this board?
2)  Is it a good board?
3)  How is it with GPL and N2?

Please post or e-mail me.  Thanks in advance.

1) no

2) I don`t know

3) I don`t know anything about these cards, so you`ll have to follow my
little gpl graphics card guide :)

a) Is it a rendition?  yes - goto 'd'    no - goto 'b'
b) Is it a 3dfx?          yes - goto 'd'    no - goto 'c'
c) It will look shit
d) It will look fantastic!

There, Hope that clears a few things up ;-)

I've run GPL on the Genoa V-Raptor, but I have the 4 meg version of the
card. Frame rate was fine, and the game looked wonderful. I don't know
exactly how the V-Raptor compares to the Thriller, but I would expect
the two to be very similar.

I assume that is a joke, as a TNT will do nothing for Grand Prix Legends.
You will be stuck in software only mode, which does not even run well or
look good on a PII450. Currently 3DFX and Rendition chipsets are the only
ones officially supported, while there is an unsupported Matrox G200 patch.
So far no TNT.

no, actually it doesnt clear things up.  It is a rendition and has an 8meg
version.  I was hoping someone who was using one could answere.  I do know
the difference in chipsets.  I just wanted some info before I upgraded my
old Intergraph.

That's a great choice if he wants to play GPL without 3D acceleration
at 10 FPS.

There is one thing you have to look out for with the VRaptors and that
is the speed of the memory used.  Some early boards (esp. 4MBers) had
only 80Mhz rated memory, while others had 100MHz.  I don't think this is
a problem at all with the 8MB boards, esp. the AGP version.

You will find the Rendition-based boards to be somewhat sharper/purer in
color than a 3Dfx board running GPL, and it will work a bit better if
you only have a midlevel CPU.  Most beneficial of all is that only the
Rendition cards can run GPL with anti-aliasing enabled.

Try the Genoa www site for more specific info on the VRaptor.
