Maybe stupid question, but if I stall during a pitstop in a race, how do I
get engine restarted?

I've always used the auto clutch so I don't think I can stall.  But, if
the car doesn't refire automatically you are screwed...F1 cars and the sim
too do NOT have starter motors.
anyone know for sure?

Hmmm would have thought the pit crew would have a starter for when a car
stalls during the pitstop, like in real life.
I'm quite prepared to accept I'm out of the race if I stall out on the
track, but it's annoying when it happens in the middle of a full gp and
you're sat in the pits

I don't know about current cars, but back in the 80s they had a starter
driven off a little air bottle.  It was part of the regs that the car
nominally had to have a starter and a reverse gear, neither of which were
particularly dependable.  Turning over a high compression motor with a
little bottle of compressed air isn't too easy, and hoping it fires up is
wishful thinking.  However, when Gilles Villeneuve trashed his Ferrari at
Zandvoort, the race reports say he stabbed the starter button a few times,
got it going, then three-wheeled it back to the pits, dangling the rear
suspension behind him.

In F1-2001 I have not found a way to restart.

Todays F1-engines uses pneumatic valves, and those engines cannot be
started, going downhill
and put in a gear. You need a box to get the airpressure up, before
attempting to start the engine.
They say ducatis new MotoGP bike have the same technology now btw.
But if the car stalls in the pits, they are allowed to restart it I think.

It is possible to restart the engine by 'clutch' starting it in F1-2001
(real life I dont think you can start it unless you have your mechanics
nearby with all the gear). If you are on a slight downhill, just put it in
1st gear, hold the clutch in, wait until you are slightly rolling, push the
throttle hard in and then release the clutch (with throttle still fully
depressed). As soon as you hear the engine burst into life and rev depress
the clutch in again so you dont stall it and then light up the wheels to get
moving.

Same applies if its downhill (backwards), just use reverse instead of 1st.

I hope the above makes sense, it works for me (but you do have to be rolling
at least a few km/h), you cant be stationary.

Yes have done this many times in f12001. Silly really that you can restart
like this which you would be unable to in real life, but sat in the pits
where they would have a starter to fire up the engine again you're screwed!
