Sounds weird, I use a clean, split axis profile, with no key
associated to the buttons.

Even weirder. What did you re-install ? GPL or the Sidewinder software
? Did you try the latest version from the MS site ?

Have you modified 1.0.0.0 in any way ? The patch needs a clean
gpl.exe. Try to copy it from the cd, but take a backup first.

This system should run GPL at 36 fps on 1024x768 with no problems.

Squash-ball on the paddles ? I have one under the brake pedal which is
great, but never heard of it used on the paddles. But if it works for
you, nothing is better of course :)

Hmm, the patch should work then. Are you sure it's the right version ?

Hehe

Sorry! I re-installed GPL (UK version) and it's not modified.
And you got me with the squash balls ;-)

I have a very similar set-up to yours and have never had any problems apart
from finding the split-axis page on the Sidewinder software. Are you really
using a squash ball under the throttle pedal as well? I have a strong spring
(I really have to press hard to lock the brakes, like a real car with no
servo-assistance) under the brake pedal but I've never thought of doing
anything with the throttle.

I'm starting to wonder if half a squash ball under the throttle
peddle is somehwat of a ras faux pas!!

Still confused with this patch business. Yes, it's definitely
the 1.2 patch from Papy's site, And I've definitely got version
1.0.0.0 (as confirmed on the main screen).

Yes, as I recall, and seem to confirm from the readme, the patchs are
incremental. i.e., you need to patch to 1.1, and then 1.2

It was a genuine question on my part. It seems unlikely to work but if
putting half a squash ball under
the throttle pedal cuts a tenth off a lap-time then there are a lot of
people here want to try it.
