Thrustmaster Force GT Wheel???

by shadd » Sat, 07 Nov 1998 04:00:00

Has anyone seen one of these yet and if so what are first impressions?
I saw at Best Buy they already have price tags on the shelfs for them
but did not have them in stock yet.  I believe they had a price around
$160.

I haven't had the opportunity to actually to use one, but I think the
look and feel is better than the competitors.  I had the chance to wrap
my hands around the wheels of 4 different FF products, but none where
hooked up.  Hopefully we will all have a chance in a few weeks.  I
understand that they should be available at Best Buy and CompUSA in
a couple of weeks.

Does the TM FF use the serial port, or midi port, for feedback signals?

The MS FF Wheel is outstanding, except it uses the Midi signal lines on
the Joystick port for it's Force Feedback commands.  I'm not sure I like
that.  I do know it caused sound stuttering problems with my Creative
PCI/128 sound card.

I returned it for this, and a few other, reasons...

It will be serial or USB.  Hopefully they will have DOS drivers for DOS
games, but I don't know for sure.  I think the actual wheel will be
similar to the Super Sport's, but mounted in the NASCAR Pro type base.

That had nothing to do with the MS FF wheel, it's the stupid drivers of
this sound card. I replaced it with the SB Live, and the sound problems
were gone.
