How could I forget you :)
To be honest, I am quite faster than you (8:20 something), but that
was after lots and lots of laps. Can't imagine that I will even break
the 8 minute limit though...
But Eldred, 10.28.88... Nobody can be THAT bad ? :)))
Serious, if you just concentrate on staying on the track, a sub 10
minute lap is not that hard. After you drove enough laps to memorize
the track, or at least the points where you crash the most, you can
start on shaving of those 2 minutes...

That's the problem.  I keep having these curves sneak up on me.  I canNOT keep
it on the track for a full lap.  Memorize a lap?  Yeah, RIGHT.  I can remember
MANY songs as a musician(words&music), a multitude of computer info, and many
other things.  I can even tell you all the actors' names from Gilligan's
Island.<g>  But I don't see how *anyone* could memorize the turns at the Ring.
Huttu doesn't count - he's not from this world... :)

Never argue with an idiot.  He brings you down to his level, then beats you

I have a hard time with some of the names, but I can visualize driving the
track no problem... maybe done 60 laps there, if that.

You really need to post some laps/setups Eldred... there's got to be
something fundamentally wrong if you're having trouble staying on the black
stuff at that pace.

you could learn it the way i did: Drive round, take the replay, (or use the
one supplied) then, get a notepad, mark all the curves, both horizontal and
vertical,(type, direction and speed), then have someone recite them to you,
like a rally co-driver, next time your out  on the course. Sooner or later,
you'll start to "know what comes next". It's best to learn it one section at
a time. Start by making sure you know from the s/f line to Flugplatz, then,
only when you're sure of that section, move on to the next. And don't push
too hard if your new to a piece of track, or you'll end up crashing and
getting frustrated.

Hey Eldred, since you seem to be as bad as I am in GPL, I wanna challenge you
to a race on VROC! May the worse driver lose!  And that will be me! I'll see
you in loosers lane!

ch.aol.com>:

Driving ability is one thing, learning ability another. If you haven't learned
your way around the Ring, you simply haven't put in the time. Now dammit
Eldred, do some laps of the Ring , you've got a race to train for!

You've got to break it into sections and learn each one. Remember it's
like 5 or 6 normal race tracks in one.

Hmm, off the top of my head... :-)

Straight, slow left, long right, straight, slow left, slow left, right
kink, medium right, left kink, slow left-right chicane, right, left,
short straight, slow right, slow downhill left, kinked straight over two
hills (flugplatz), fast right, gradual fast left, downhill straight with
right kink, medium left, slow right, fast downhill esses, fast uphill
double apex left, right-left-right chicane, kinked straight, medium
double-apex left, slow left, right kink, slow left, left-right flick,
medium double-apex right, downhill straight, slow left, slow right,
downhill straight, slow left, slow uphill right, straight, quick left
flick, short straight, slow right, long fast left curve, quick right
flick, short straight, quick right-left flick, medium double apex left,
short straight, slow right, short straight, right hairpin, short
straight, left hairpin (karrussel), right flick, short straight, quick
left, slow left-right, slow downhill right, medium left-right, slow
left-right, short straight, slow uphill right, ... **not sure for a
while** ... short straight, slow uphill left, slow sharp downhill left,
short straight, medium double-apex right, medium left, medium downhill
left, short straight, fast esses, slow right over bridge, slow left,
short straight, slow left (kleines karrussel) short straight, slow
right, medium right, looooong straight, fast left, short straight,
chicane, straight.

Wow, I'm a lot sadder than I thought :-)
Seriously though the Ring isn't about knowing things by heart, but
basically to have a good idea what's coming next. Sort of like when
people say "I can get there, but I couldn't tell you how I do it" :-)

I'm about to put you in the 'alien' category...

But your lap doesn't need to be timed by a SUNDIAL...
