Will the TPTCC Cars be useable ?

I rather like the job Jurjen did on converting mine, and don't want to lose
it.

Rats, I was inflicted with DGF syndrome this week :)

After the game crashing out on me 3 times, it was time to give up for the
week.

I just spend the last 14 hours rebuilding my system from scratch in efforts
to fix it.

I NEVER had these issues until the 4.11 Catalysts came out.  The 4.12's just
made it worse.

In the past, I've always run three separate WinXP boots on my system.  One
for Home Use, one for Racing, and one for Work.  All the VPN stuff has made
my Work boot someone complex in the comms department, so I always like to
keep it a separate boot.  Plus I didn't want all the scanners and other
peripheral drivers in the way of *** performance.

However, when I built this Athlon64 3500 system a few months ago, I decided
to try a single boot with 3 separate profiles instead.  I never really like
how that worked out, so this time I want back to the 3 separate XP
installs/boot.

It's a shitload of work to get done, but it's done :)

As for the Catalysts, I STILL cannot get the 4.12's to work right.  In-game
_seems_ to have settled down, but for the life of me I cannot get that new
Catalyst Control Center to work right.  There are like 3 different places
you can launch it, but the damned thing will NOT come up.  This is after a
fresh reload of the system with 4.12's !

I give up.  On the *** boot I went back to 4.10's with the Standard
Control Panel.  I have my fingers crossed.

The Catalyst 4.11's and 4.12's, for me, have been a major step backwards in
reliability.

Hmm, is this control center really necessary? I upgraded to a used
9800PRO last week (had a geforce ti4800SE before), and it's running
just fine without the control center stuff. Or am I missing something?
All the options I could want are available from within
desktop->properties->advanced (cat 4.12, xp pro SP2)

cheers,

Yes. Since turnout is low for these truck races, it looks like we are going
to run Texas and then get the GTP races going a week early (assuming the mod
is released on schedule).

Thanks guys, progress so far...

Scrutineering report: pass. Steering column is adequately repaired.

Medical report: fail. Driver is up and about, but still fails to negotiate
his way out of a paper bag more often than usual. :-)

Not at this time.  You can dowload either the Control Center or Control
panel of each driver so far.

I was under the impression that the availability of the Control Panel
version would cease at some point.  I sure hope not.

I'm starting to hate .Net.  Not to mention the fact that it still amuses me
to see some 500k utilities require a 22MB .net runtime to run :)

Gotta love today's 'tight' programming!

I don't recall what it was.  I do know it was Video related because one time
when I got to the desktop there was a request to send a report to ATI.

After the system rebuild, I ran about 2 hours online last night.  So far so
good!

That's after I got rid of the 4.12's and put the 4.10's with the control
panel back on.  I don't know if the 4.12's would have been ok because I was
never able to get the damned Catalyst Control Center to come up!  The cursor
would spin for about 4 seconds, then go back to normal with no launch.

Since my problems started with the 4.11's, I decided to just go back to
4.10's with the control panel (on my racing boot), and be done with it.  It
works fine, and I'm not touching it again.

Just for giggles I also replaced the stock Antec 380w supply that came with
the Sonata case with a Neo 480 (one hell of a Power Supply).  Probably
didn't need it, but with an Athlon 3500, Radeon 9800 Pro, two Sony DRU-710A
DVD Burners and two Seagare 160GB Sata Drives, as well as a Gig of RAM, I
thought I might be pushing it with a 380 watt supply.

I really dig the 120mm Fan design in this case (and the new Neo 480 uses a
120mm fan as well).  It's damned near silent while pushing a ton of air at
the same time.  There are 3 120mm fans including the one in the supply.

Its such a non-isssue.  I dont understand this complaint over and over
Larry.

.Net is nothing more than an evolution of VB and C++.  Didnt you at some
point have to install runtimes for VB?  If it comes with Windows then its
OK but if you have to add it its not?

You can always go back to DOS cant you?  I mean really all your complaining
about is forward progress.

Larry, how you ever got past a Black and White Zentith TV is beyond me and
that you work in this industry your tude is even more surprising :)

This industry is still in its infancy and I expect and want many changes
before I kick.

Actually, .Net is still an add-on for XP.  It was released after XP shipped.

As for the problems with the Catalyst Control Center, I'm beginning to
suspect it has been broken by a recent 'security fix' released for the .Net
runtime.  Can't prove it, but I think that's where the issues are coming
from.

As I've said over and over Mitch, but you fail to hear, I am hardly against
change.

I AM against change for the sake of change, and when that change provides no
tangible benifit.

Are you sure you have the .Net 1.1 fix Larry?  I dont think it comes
down on the windows update and the ATI CC is funky without it.

I _thought_ I did.  I'll check it out.

My Work and General boots still have the 4.12's with Control Center so I
have a way to check.

Windows Update does bring down a security update.  I thought this was the
latest.  Maybe not!

Thanks!
