Well.. after playing Mona***Grand Prix Racing 2,, I was longing for a GOOD
F1 sim. GP3... too far away. So, I decided to tempt my chance and install
GP2 with Win98. My God! the thing works! I have a Logitech USB sterring, a
SB Live, and a Guillemot TNT2. Wow I didn't have to configure anything! The
only prob I had was that I had to run the pedals combined. GP2 recongnized
my steering, and my sound card... I guess Win98 does a great job at
supporting old software. If it only could support new software as well:)

Back to GP2! What a great game. I get a better sense of speed in this game.
I can tell when I am at the limit of braking....It is not 3d accelerated,
but it works like a wonder. I remember getting this for my Pentium
90...wow.. this things is much smoother on a PII 450!

I just bought a run-out Thrustmaster T2. I also found my
copy of GP2. OH MY GOD!!! Look what 464Mhz and > 1,200 MIPS
does for GP2! The car is 100% alive and absolutely WILD!

I was never ever satisfied with the way that the cars
drove in GP2, not even on p133-p166's. They felt a
bit ponderous. Jeez, now with well over 25.6 fps,
it's a different story. It shites all over F1RS IMO.
Try a few tightly strung together twisting corners like
Flinders Street on Adelaide (fantastic track that all
Australian fans call home).... absolute nirvana.

Tony, I am having trouble getting GP2 to actually run on my PII450, W98, V2,
128Mb.
It appears to install okay but I just can't get into the game, either
through DOS, W98 or a DOS window.
I never had a moments problem on my "old" system (p166, SVGA card, 32Mb).
Any tips, as I'd like to re-experince the best "contemporary" F1 sim?

It's just been re-re-released in the UK - try looking at the hasbro web
site, or see if you can get it on import from one of the UK companies.

Go to the game icon and click the following:

-Properties
  -Program
    -Advanced
-Enable "Prevent DOS Programs from seeing Windows"

Worked for me.  Hopefully for you too.

Dusted off?  Except for short excursions on NFS, Toca 1+2, Viper, Indycar,
Nascar, etc. etc. I ALWAYS return to this game. You can keep your VooDooX or TNT
nonsense, this is simply the best racing game ever made (of course, I'm still
waiting for my copy of GPL to arrive in the mail).  I just wish they would spend
less time doing lens flare and more time improving the sims.. how about all
flags (and in context), safety car, dynamic team orders (changing as
championship develops), better overall AI, etc.  I sure hope all these things
turn up in GP3!!

I still play GP2 as well. The game is just phenomenal. Lately I have been
playing alot of GPL, but I always return to GP2. Check out Grandprix2.com for
updated carsets and teams and stuff. Makes the game even better.

Um, because there wasn't a computer that could run it decently until
three years after it's release? Was that a trick question? ;-)

Actually, I see it the other way... it keeps getting better each year,
adding to its value.  I started in VGA, no textures in 1996 on a DX2,
moved to SVGA, no textures in 1997 on a P133 notebook, then to SVGA, most
textures in 1998.  Each year a new game!

Dump the sky. There's a bug.
