Looking for high detail car sounds

I"m looking for high detail sounds (MP3 or Wav).  I have a few from the '67
GP era as well as Sports car sounds, but I'm looking for a lot more!

I'm hoping to put them altogether to make a CD of just motor racing sounds.

I'm looking for sounds of:

Formula 1  (modern and historic)
Sports cars
Nascars
Touring cars
Drag Racing cars  (top fuelers preferably)
Anything else that sounds fabulous  (read V12 sports cars  ;0)

If I get a good collection together and I get a space, I'll put them on the
web for everyone to enjoy.

So, who's got some links?

Thanks in advance,

James

There were some great LPs (vinyl) made in the late 50s(?) with
names like "Sounds of Sebring".  Iirc, these have some great
engine sounds on them, as well as interviews with the drivers.

No idea where to find them, but maybe this is enough of a clue
to start a search?

Here are a couple:

This one has some awesome sounds of a '53 F-1 BRM 16 cylinder (drool) and an
'84 Cosworth F-1 :

Good luck, hope to hear what you come up with :0)

  Doug,

Road & Track, June 1999.....  Hehe..  Cool, very cool :0)  How was it working
with Mario Andretti, or should I say, how was it for him working with you :-)?

Ah, so you found the MRA website eh?

Mario did the track testing and I did the skid pad evaluation so we didn't
have much contact during the actual road test.  In the morning before the
test began it was wet/puddles from rain overnight and I got some wild
rides, best description might be, "intermittent hydroplaning combined with
limit operation".  Kind of like driving on patchy ice, but _much_ faster.
This does not sit well before lunch...

Man, I would kill for a CD with top-notch high-end recordings of cool
engines... I mean really good recordings like that of the BRM-V16.

Here's my contribution anyways:

Actually, I bought that issue of the magazine when it came out.  I just had
to see Andretti racing around and testing those cars, seeing how they stacked
up against each other.  A couple nights ago I dug it out again and read through
the articles and said, "Wow!  I'll be darned, it's Doug Milliken!"  Funny, I've
read through there a bunch of times and never realized it was you doing the
skidpad evaluations.  So, let me get this straight.  That day, you drove:

1.  Acura NSX
2.  Corvette C-5
3.  Dodge Viper
4.  Lotus Esprit
5.  Porche Carrera 4
6.  Ferrari F355 Spider

I envy you, I really envy you!  lol  Even with a little "intermittent
hydroplaning combined with limit operation" due to bad weather...  hehe

What is MRA's url, anyway?  I'm curious to see.  I thought this was a neat
quote from the magazine article:

"The last 20 years have been spent [by Doug Miliken] with Milliken Research
Associates, though doing exactly what, you can't pry out of him.  MRA is a
hired gun, made up of analysts who solve problems the car companies don't like
to talk about.  However, a measure of their analytical gravity is that their
technical tome, Race Car Vehicle Dynamics, has become an engineering textbook
in several colleges."

Cool...  Very, very cool...  Excuse me while I wipe the brown stuff off my
nose, but you're the man, definately the man :-)

[note, "Zanardi Edition, non-power steering, probably my favorite
road-car steering system of all time.  Just talked to a Japanese
journalist who owned a very early NSX that also had non-power
steering--all the rest of production has, afaik, power-assist.]

It was nearly a nightmare, I had about 3 hours total to do about two days
of work.  While the life of a magazine roadtester may seem idylic, the
reality is somewhat more hectic...<grin>

There is a link on our site to my report on the R & T road test (maybe on
the "Services" page?).  R & T put the whole thing up, but only used short
quotes in the magazine.

Didn't Roger Waters (or one of the other Pink Floyd guys) produce a CD
of sounds from the cars in his stable?  Seems like I saw them floating
around a while back.

How about incar sounds...we could then play guessing games trying to
figure out which track they were recorded at by listening to the use of the
throttle and brakes...
Le Sarthe should be easy...  :)

Shoot, my newsreader didn't post your reply here, Doug, thanks Dave for
replying so I could see it :0)

I saw that it was the Zanardi Edition..  Very nice.  God what I would give to
drive around in those cars for a few hours!  lol

Hmmm.....  I'll buy that, but I can't say I feel sorry for ya :-)

There we go :0)  That's much better.  I'll have to refer to this if/when I
try to model one of those cars with nothing but magazine articles for input
data...

It's interesting how braking effects are studied on the skidpad this way.
I'd imagine that the cars that still track the circle well when the brakes are
on have a bit more forward brake bias than the rears, right?  Speaking of brake
bias, does this indicate the ratio of total braking torques front/rear, or does
it indicate how quickly they rise relative to each other?  If brake bias only
tells the ratio of total torques, that's probably not very descriptive, come to
think of it...

It's the former, though I suppose strictly speaking in
a real, road car it only applies at one given value of
brake effort.  Various valves may be used to alter the
split, not to mention the significantly different initial
characteristics of drums vs. discs.

I know Nick Mason, the drummer, has a big car collection. I also seem
to remember something about something called "Into the red"-or
something. Haven't seen it anywhere, though.

Down near the bottom, <http://www.millikenresearch.com/services.html> has
the link to the Road & Track page (the R & T link changes and we keep
updating our link to track it).

There are a lot things going on, just for one example consider,
"longitudinal force compliance steer" -- wheels steer a little bit when the
brakes are applied.  Such things are measured by rigs like this:
<http://www.abd.uk.com/spmm1.htm>  Also discussed in RCVD Chap 23.

"Brake bias" (as we use it) is the ratio of either wheel torques or, better
yet, force at the ground (takes care of different loaded radius tires F and
R).  However, I don't believe that there is much of a standard for this
term, so it could be used in many ways.  With various add-ons in the brake
system, the bias can change all over the place (proportioning valves,
ride-height sensitive valves, ABS...)
