F1RS Problem

by - » Mon, 30 Aug 1999 04:00:00

With my LFFW, I got F1RS included. So, I installed it, and tried
playing. After loading the track and a few seconds off the grid I get
this error (which brings me back to the desktop):

F1RS Fatal Error

Lock badily failed for no obvious reason!

WTF?? Nice to know they give some KIND of clue as to what the hell the
error is! I can't figure it out, I have the 1.09 patch installed,
thinking of reinstalling the game w/o to see what happens. I can't find
any other way to get support for this game. Does ANYONE know what this
error is and how to correct it?? It's my only F1 sim (sans World Circuit
- might just go out and get Offical F1 after all) and I would like to
try it unharrassed. Is that so much to ask for??

Check out the faq at the Unofficial F1RS site:
http://www.f1racingsim.com/miscellaneous.htm
you might find some help there as well as any number of upgrades for the
sim.

I too, got the game with my LFFW , good luck to you , Full of bugs etc. I
had no end of trouble with it. I can get it to run OK, but speed through the
menus is dreadful. Slack graphics, dismal sound effects. Get rid of it and
invest in something like GPL,SCGT,Toca2 all use FF, much less hassle and are
all better than F1RS. Sheez ... GP2 (even  without FF) must be at bargain
price and even though it's old it blows F1RS into the weeds.
Think about it, why do they give the game away...

These are pretty silly comments!  Sure F1RS was flawed, but it has a lot
going for it.  Don't bother with OF1R, it really is poor.  Get GPL or
MGPRS2 - they really are the best in very different ways.

What's silly about those comments . Be specific if you are going to comment
like that. You say it's flawed, without elaborating. What I state is a fair
reflection on my experiences with the game.  I can tell you it's not my
system and I've seen similar postings in regard to the menu speed etc.
If you have not experienced these problems, you are fortunate.

Well, I've never had problems with the menus, 'course I can't tell with
the rest of the game 'cause I can't get that far...

There's no problem with menu speed. Of course you have to do a maximum
install, otherwise the necessary files remain on CD what is naturally
slower. You may check out the FAQ, I'm sure the majority of 'problems'
have been answered & solved already.

I had similar problems when I loaded the game (I to got it free with my
LWFF).  I found a file called "FrcFeeb.txt" in C:\ubisoft\F1RS\  this file
tells you to amend a line in the c:\windows\ubisoft  ini file from joy to
wheel as under:-

FFDevTypePlayer0=WHEEL

I am no expert but this certainly worked for me.  BTW don't waste money on
MGPRS2 as the physics suck.

I'm sorry, but comments like the one below when comparing MGPRS2 against
F1RS are ridiculous!  I played F1RS for about 9 months and liked it -
despite some problems, but when MGPRS2 was released, F1RS came off the drive
very quickly.  MGPRS2 is more realistic in every way, including the physics,
the difficulty in achieving good qualifying times (F1RS was way too easy),
the AI, the way the setup options affect the car, etc. etc.
