Not to mention the font-uglification with Netscape/Linux.  Good thing
there came a work-around of sorts.  I can just imagine, though, the
impact a port of IE5 would have on your workstation.  =-)))

Yep.  Dual-booter here as well.  Mandrake 7/Win98 SE.  I'm still a MS
slave because I'm still a GPL slave.  =-))  Can't wait for the MS Office
port to Linux.  You'll really see her go mainstream then!  Agreed
though.  Maybe in a few years........

Depends on the area / field.  I'm sure the mathematicians / physicists etc.
use***for a lot of their papers, as I did, just for its proper treatment
of equations.  I must admit our lab uses Windows, as did most of the faculty
and grad students at my engineering school.  Partly it is for compatibility
with the journals that we publish in; only one of them accepts***files.
This is biomechanical engineering, where there are still a healthy number of
equations, but they are not the focus of the printed article.  The latest
call for papers of three conferences that I have attended have included Word
templates, and the request to submit using Word.  It is slowly seeping into
even the hallowed halls.
