GPL - Sports Cars

Just wondering...

Has anyone made a mod to use sports cars for GPL?

I'm driving the wheels off of SCGT.
It's not so bad with AOE, 80+ tracks and a few
hundred vehicles.

On the other hand, it would be much nicer to see
a freakin' new Sports Car sim!

I'm growning apart from Nascar. It only took about
six months of N4, driving round and round in a circle.
But still, it's somewhat of a pleasure to run
such a modern graphics and sound(3D!) engine.

It's unfortunate that Papy locks-up their game formats.
It would be nice to see the same third-party community
grow around N4 that has for SCGT.

Are there any alternatives to Sports Car GT?
It's starting to feel ancient...

There's a great sportscar (FIA GT) addon for f1-2001, we have an editing
forum about it on the site. www.simbin.com
We are also just putting the finishing touches to Version 2 with COMPLETELY
new physics that is just about as close in feel terms as anything I've
tried. Should be ready to go in a matter of days. The physics are finished,
Turner and Doug are just finishing of the AI behaviour, and I'm working on
setups for the AI and an Easy and Pro setup for each driver car.
I can tell you, what the guys have done with the physics is astounding!
One of the Porsche teams is now GT class with a bi-turbo 996.

I am not baiting flame when I say that it surpasses GPL in terms of low
downforce vehicular dynamics.

We will be setting up a new forum for feedback and advice specifically for
the mod, and hopefully there'll be an automated hotlap competition with lap
tester (corner cutting etc.) and file integrity checker.

I'm ***ed to it. :-)

All the best

Ian

No. You can't.
Well, you can but they clip like a bastard and the physics is all wrong anyway.
The frame rates would probably be horrendous too.

Glad to hear it Ian.  F1 2001 with the FIA mod is my favourite racing game
by far now with SCGT a close second. Now, when Lemans is released for SCGT
(it is happening) if it could be converted to F1 2001 WOOHOO!!!!! now that
would be the ultimate.

Keep up the good work it is much appreciated by many

Hmm that's an interesting idea if I'm reading you right. A mod for F1 2001
to add all the cars and teams for 1967 including the ones missed out in GPL
yes ?
Sounds good to me.

Ian,

Will Version 2, have a "one-step" installation routine?

I think the initial release will be the updated files only Bert (27 of
them), you can just extract them to the vehicles folder leaving the paths
intact and it should overwrite the old files (although it may be an idea to
remove all the hdv, tbc, pm and ini files from the old installation and
unzip the new one in clean.
Let me check with Turner about the installer, as it would be nice to have
version 2 in a single package, particularly for those that don't have
version 1 in yet.

Just came from throwing the Lister around Monza :-) Have to go back.

Cheers

Might be able to influence the Graphics guys. :-)

One last question:  Will we be able to easily switch between the GT mod, and the
original F1 2001?  Or would we have to have 2 separate installations of F1 2001
on the HD - one for the F1 cars and one for the GT Mod?

What I do, is keep a copy of the config.ini for the standard install and for
the mod in a 2 folders and drag and drop them into the F1-2001 directory,
depending on what I want to race.
You can set up a seperate config.ini with a command line shortcut, but it
takes 2 seconds to drop the alternative version in.

cheers

This sounds Very Interesting :)

Could you talk a little bit about the online capabilities of F1 2001,

Is there a site where you can host from equivalent to WinVroc ?
How many cars can run in an online race ?
Can you set up practice sessions/qualify/Race ?

If there is online capability, I'm game to try it. The graphics look
outstanding on the web site and you sound jazzed about the physics :)

F1 relay has the most comprehensive multiplayer options, but this is
after-all an F1 title.  they really don't have multiplayer.  4 to 5 drivers
seems to be the most and that is pushing it.  It is a shame.  The Cart World
Series is also going to be based on the F1 2001 engine.  I'm pretty sure
they won't be able to say that CART contractuallly limits multiplayer
options like the current crop of F1 titles claim.  So if the Cart sim has
the same piss-poor multiplayer, then it's the engine an not the
legalities...

Like I said -- wish I knew how to do this stuff. Has anyone thought of
doing Sports Car Legends carsets of roughly the same era as GPL? Ford GT
MkII and GT40, Chaparral 2D and 2F, Ferrari P3/4 and 250LM, Lola T70
MkIII, Porsche 906, 910, and 911, Corvette Grand Sport, Cobra 289, 427,
and Daytona coupe, Alfa 33, Ford P68 F3L, Gulf-Wyer Mirage, maybe the
stillborn Jaguar XJ13... the tracks are all available, the physics of
the cars can't be much different, even some of the same engines were
used. This would be the bomb, I think.... or have I missed the boat and
someone's already doing this?
