Logitech Momo Force

Hi everybody,

I'm looking for a Logitech Momo Force wheel. The red one with the
leather wheel and the metal construction. (NOT the new Racing Force).

It seems that Logitech have decided to stop selling it, so I can't
find one anywhere. If anybody knows of a place in the UK I can acquire
one (either new or in very good condition), or in New York City (I'll
be there next weekend), could you let me know?

Cheers,

Nick

The Red Momo was a limited edition, short manufactering run, item.  It
was never intended for longterm sales.  The Black Momo is the mass
produced  wheel.   I think most Red Momos were sold within a year.
Anybody who has any now for retail would most likely have remanufactured
units.  I doubt you will find any in the retail sector...you might find
something used on Ebay.  But again, Logitech is not in the spare parts
business.  Any refurbishing would have to be done by yourself...There are
a couple of sites on the web that explain  working on Momos.

Just because it's got a 'leather' wheel cover (some of the worst leather
I've ever felt) , a few metal parts and a very high price tag, don't assume
it's a vastly superior product.  The pedals are rubbish and the plastic
bearing in the racing force is very heavy duty and just as smooth.  The only
minor weakness on the racing force is the paddle shifters but I'm told
they've been much improved in the versions that are currently on the
shelves.  They both have the momo logo if that bothers you and the textured
*** wheel on the racing force feels far nicer.  I'm sure a lot of people
will tell you that the momo force is the only way to go but I'd say it's
just the fact that it was so much more expensive and it has 'leather' and
'metal' in its feature list that has convinced them of that in their own
minds.  Most importantly, your times will be a bit faster with a momo racing
(mainly due to the better pedals)

I have to bite on this subject :-)

I've been using my red Momo Force wheel almost daily for 2 years, and its as
solid and tight as new. Every other wheel I've owned has had something break
within 3 months. I paid for quality (solid metal ball bearings, etc), and
the quality has certainly paid off for me.

By that logic, you should have bought a BRD - they're about 3 times the
price, so that would have been 3 times better value for you...

Not if he wanted FF.

Well, thanks for all your opinions on the wheel - I know you're all an
opinionated bunch but I didn't want to start an argument.

However, the question still stands - does anybody know where I can
locate a new/refurbished/second-hand (vgc) Logitech Momo Force
(red+leather+aluminium), either in the UK or in New York?

Thanks,

they all use 10 cent pots and pots go bad.
If your wheel is over 2 years old your pots are most
likely at the end the 10 cent part.

Actually the momo racing uses optics for the wheel instead of pots.  The
momo force pots seem to be lasting 2-3 years for most simmers.  The pedal
pots are often the first to go anyway...

I wonder if it's possible to replace the electronics of the Force with
the electronics from the Racing.  Although I've read that the current
pots might have more resolution than the optics of the Racing.

I've wondered about this since reading some time ago that the racing ff
was better than the force, but I think it would be simpler to just strip
a racing down to it's component parts & re-build it using stronger
materials, like metal paddles instead of plastic, and ball bearings to
replace the plastic bushes in a similar manner to the LWFF bearing mod.

Sadly my engineering skills aren't up to the job, but if someone with
the funds to buy an ECCI or other top-spec (non-FF) wheel really wanted
one with FF, I'm sure it could be done by ***ising a racing,
although I doubt Logitech (or any other manufacturer) would allow it to
be done commercially.

I agree.  Very nice wheel, impossible pedals.  The 'mass-produced' Momo
pedals look MUCH better.  More like the MSFFW pedals, which are as good as
they get in a consumer class wheel.

I sold my Momo for $75 with only about 2 hours time on it.  I just could not
deal with the pedals.

I have to say the same for my MSFFW's.  I only bought a new one a few months
ago because it was on close-out for $39 :)

It's my third one.  NONE of them have ever failed.  The worst thing that
ever came up was the left shifter on the second one got a bit sticky after 3
years, and needed a shot of tuner cleaner.

I am using the black racing force with Act Labs performance pedals. Unlike
the Red the black has USB right from the wheel and the red has the USB from
the pedal wire requiring the red pedals to be plugged in. There is rewiring
plans on the web to use the red with the ACT Labs pedals if someone wants to
do that. I got the wheel only on Ebay new without pedals for 12.50. At that
price I could buy a lot before I hit the price of the Red.
