OT: FSAA Artifacts

Using a Visiontek Geforce 4 Ti 4200 with 29.80 drivers and Win98 gold, I
am getting strange artifacts when using FSAA with games.  I get a line
of pixels vertically on the left side of the screen and another line
horizontally at the top of the screen that are random garbage.  I don't
see this when I am not using FSAA.  I don't recall whether the 27.50
drivers had this problem, but the 29.42's definitely did.  Does anyone
know whether this is a hardware or software problem?  Are there drivers
that do not have this problem?  Is there a reg tweak that will fix it?
Or do I have a bad card?

Well I don't think it is your card. I have a gf3 ti 200, and after moving up
to the 29.42's I noticed the same thing. So far that is the only thing I
have noticed wrong with these drivers, and I don't even notice it anymore.

Okay cool.  I tried to fool around with it today, and could only
reproduce it reliably in GPL.  I couldn't get it to happen in any OpenGL
games.  I could have sworn I saw it in some other DX games yesterday,
but I couldn't get it to do it today.  Anyway I fixed the GPL problem by
turning off multisampling in the FSAA tab in Riva Tuner.  So now it
seems to be working.  I think that was off by default anyway, so I guess
it's my fault for screwing around with it.  ;o)

Haq...

If you haven't done so....try updating your AGP Northbridge drivers.  If
they are VIA....this is probably the problem.  Also, do you have
"multi-sampling" turned on by mistake?

I don't have a VIA chipset Tom.  But yes I did turn multi-sampling on
while trying to fix a different problem, and that is apparently what was
causing the artifacts.  Since turning it off I still see an occasional
artifact in GPL, but none in other games.  Whereas before it was there
all the time in GPL and frequently in other games.  Problem solved.  I
think.  ;o)
