Rich Yasi stunned observers yesterday with a masterful victory over
points leader Dave Kaemmer at Silverstone in the Papy Cup race.

Kaemmer, who had dominated recent events in the series, finished second
after a wild spin and difficulties with his Ford-Cosworth engine, while
Tony Johns rounded out the top three.

While you're there, review the pictorial storyboard of the Papy Cup
Monaco race, featuring over 50 screen shots from the actual race replay,
and see some exciting screen shots of my Eagle-Weslake soaring at the
Nurburgring!

Also, I'd like to thank all the readers who have sent me email.  My
inbox is overflowing, and I will respond to everyone as quickly as I
can, but I make no promises about when that will be!

Someone asked about whether the final version of GPL will have a
speedometer in the car, since I was quoting speeds in my descriptions
accompanying the screen shots of my Eagle at the Nurburgring.

The answer is no, there is no speedometer, but if you look closely at
the replay screenshots, in the upper right-hand corner you will see a
MPH display.  This can be configured to display in either MPH or KPH,
and shows the car's speed at the moment.

>Just a quick question, what video card / resolution are you using? Some of

>photographs!

LOL!  That's great to hear!

I was using a Diamond Stealth II S220 (Rendition 2x00) at 800x600.

My AGP Thriller arrived Friday afternoon, just after I did the
Silverstone report, so future shots will be done with that.  As far as I
can tell, image quality is identical; it's only in terms of frame rate
that the Thriller is superior to the Stealth.

The Thriller has the capability to do 1024x768, but the resulting image
files are much larger.  I may do a 1024x768 sample at some point but for
the bulk of the shots I'll stick with 800x600, because it seems to be
the best compromise between resolution and image file size.

>Thanks - I'm still unsure about whether to get a Thriller or not atm. Over
>here (UK) they are very expensive - would be cheaper to import from the
>States even with added taxes :( I've got a Voodoo2 and can get perfect
>frame rates in the demo at 800*600 so I think I'll see what the peformance
>is like in the full version before deciding - maybe hold out for the 3rd
>generation Rendition.

The "Thrillers" over here are 55 for the AGP/PCI 4Mb version and 95
for the 8Mb with TV-out.

Cheers!
John
