N3 Talledega/199.96 MPH.....

N3 Talledega/199.96 MPH.....

by Ivan » Wed, 26 Jan 2000 04:00:00

I've run hundreds of laps on the N3 Talledega speedway, and I just
cannot break the 200mph average. Sure I get up to 206 on the straitway,
but my highest average speed is 199.96mph. (usually 198.5-199.25mph)

I'm using the "ACE" setup with just enough grill tape to keep it from
overheating. I have adjusted the 4th gear ratio from 3.00 to 3.25 (and
everywhere in between)and the spoiler is at its lowest angle.
(btw I'm using the ACT Force RS wheel)

Does anyone have any suggestions for this track to break 200Mmph? Have
you done it?

I don't know much about the camber and weight options so any advice with
these would help.

I'm going crazy (loving every minute of it) trying to break 200mph ;)
Any help would be appreciated.

Remove the restrictor plate?  ;-)
P.S. It can be done by changing a setting in one of the txt files... not
sure exactly which setting or which file.

You don't need to remove the plate to break 200mph. Keep the 4th gear at
3.10 and just keep the car as low as possile in the turns. Turn in gently.
You should be able to do it after practice. we are talking 70 degrees here.

You do not have to remvoe the plate to have 200+ laps, me and a friend race
about every night and we both run laps of 201, to 202  and even 203 and 204
in the draft. But, we are running at 40 degrees.

wow... that actually helped? haven't tried it but now I'm curious... can't
imagine it handlin' too well - especially in heavy traffic....?

Are you talking about by yourself, or even in a good draft... if you're
running those speeds with no other cars around, ya got NO problems.... <G>

If you are drafting (and staying in the draft) and just can't quite get
there - 4th gear is pretty much best left at 3.10 - I run with all four
tires at 60psi and it helps - probably the most important part of a fast lap
at 'dega is the line.... don't bind the car down and stay just as smooooooth
as you possibly can, no sudden corrections, no weaving......

Best lap speed at Talladega is 201.388.

Setup as follows:

Tires     60 psi all around
Camber    L    +0.60
                R    -2.20
4th Gear    3.10
Shocks    100% all around
F/R Bias    1725 lbs
Left/Right Bias    1900 lbs
Wedge        40 lbs
Steering     5 degrees
Spoiler Angle    45 degrees
Grille Tape    70%
Front Sway Bar    1"
Rear Sway Bar    1 3/16"

Weather is set to random and I do not remove the restrictor plate.  Which I
recall you can do by changing the value 1 to 0 on the line SPDWY in the file
taladega.txt under the Papyrus/Nascar3/tracks/taladega folder.

The 201.338 was actually leading a draft group of about 5 cars.  We went for
about 7 laps with me leading each lap and was basically hitting 201 each of
the 7 laps.

Actually, it's pretty realistic to have nonoptimal shocks for
handling at Tally to get speed.  Got so bad (no bounce damping, lotta
rebound, "jacked" the car down) that NASCAR had to institute rules for
shocks.

Ben

Yes I'm running this speed with no other cars.(no drafting) I still feel
that I should be able to run a 200mph average without drafting.

The only new NASCAR rule  for shock is that all teams have to run
the new shocks that NASCAR gives to each team for the plate races.
Teams calll them  "Goverment" shocks ( ie like "Government"  Cheese ).

No more of the trick shocks that drops the car height level under
accelleration and let it raise back up upon slowing down so it meet
meet height rules. I

After the test last week at Daytona, the new shocks worked as the cars
are running in the high 180's agian. The trucks were the fastest at
190mph, Nascar wasnt happy, and the rumor is they are going plate
racing too.

Got so bad (no bounce damping, lotta

We do with the default "fixed" setup all the time in the draft. Don't
need ACE to break 200. With ACE (unchanged) you should be averaging
204 or better in a tight draft. With "Fixed" setup all of the AI cars
will turn 200 at 99% at 75 degrees.
