The more and more I play GPL, I just cant seem to stop thinking what a
great
game "Indianapolis 500 Legends" would be.  If Papruys took the GPL
physics
engine and portrayed the mid to late 1960's era, when rear engine cars
began
to replace front engine cars.  They could have the Watson Roadster, the
Lotus-Fords, the Brawner-Hawk, even the famous "Whooshmobile"...  We
could have drivers like, AJ Foyt, Mario Andretti, Jim Clark, Parnelli
Jones,
Lloyd Ruby, Johnny Rutherford and so on. Indy has always (up until the
IRL)
had a special allure and to relive that on our computers would be
awesome!!!
Maybe if we can petition Papy, they will create this great game?

<much snipped>

Jeff,

Other than trying to license all those drivers, cars ,etc the only
thing I can see stopping them is Mr. Tony George.  You are dreaming
I'd guess. He appears to be as difficult to deal with as Mr.
Ecclestone.

On the positive side, I read in the Sierra magazine "Interaction"
that Sierra's president considers GP Legends to be a "franchise in
training". So at least we see that there might be a future set of
releases..

What's wrong with Bernie? The more wads you stuff into your suitcase
the easier he is to deal with. I don't see how the man could make
things any more straightforward than that!

Cheers!

I'd buy it yesterday!

And since IMS has changed layouts I wonder if making a track to resemble
it's 60's layout would still be 'tied up' in any current license
agreements??

Great idea!

I'd start it in the mid 50s when the roadsters were all-pervasive
except of course for the occasional, almighty NOVI, then the early 60s
with the Cooper "funny car", the Loti, the ill-fated Mickey Thompson
efforts, and finally the full blown rear-engine revolultion.
Gawdamity!  That would be a **blast!!**  Are you listening, Papy?

Wow, wow, wow....and another wow. Being from Indiana myself, it'd be a
definite buy. Yeah, I'd sign a petition to Papy, IMS, all the drivers, and
anyone else we needed to persuade. This is an awesome idea. I really think
that Papy should create a "Legends" series, taking some of the great series
and recreating years that were so long ago. Great idea you have Jeff!

John,

That in itself is the problem I'd say.  It may be straightforward but
it still remains difficult for smaller budget sim houses !

I would look forward to this more than i did GPL!!!  Indy has a huge appeal to
race fans.  Only other thing to mention is tracks.  I would want it to include
Milluakee, Ontario, Trenton, and some of the other tracks from the Era.  But
even if it was just Indy...Id still buy it in a heartbeat!!

It was -- it was a big dirt circle, and as the race went on, it got
worse and worse ruts.  A real disaster waiting to happen, and it often
did, but if you won there, you really accomplished something.  Every
now and then, Speedvision will show an old film of a Langhorne race --
AJ Foyt won it and when the race was over, you could see that he was
totally exhausted...

There lots and lots of classes and era's this engine would work with. More
than one company could ever cover. These are the extentions we should all be
working on, if Sierra had the balls of id software and released the code and
tools to the net.

Oh yea!!!!  Hoe i forgot that one i dont know.  I guess i was thinking pavement
not dirt.  Theres actually a 1 1/2 hr video out somewhere about the track.  I
dont know where to get it though.  Wish it was still around.  Anyone who has
seen the current 16th Street Speedway in Indy (if you havent seen Langhorne
itself in person) knows the action a track thats run like a circle produces.

Now if they would just make a Dirt Track Legends so we could run Flemington,
Syracuse, Langhorne, and the like....
