Yeah you need to be up at near 36fps for online smoothness.  It effects
the other cars too.  when I run with a P200mmx  I have almost EVERYTHING
turned
off.  and I avoid the French track.  That one even bogs my system down
offline.
I'd SERIOUSLY think about a Celeron or PII or III upgrade.  That 166 is
way underpowered...

% I've had a tough time with GPL these last few months, since I could

Nope, your modem is just fine.  In fact anything much over that will be
wasted and may be detrimental to your online racing enjoyment.

See you on the track...

Also check out the glide wrapper and set your mirror refresh rate to
every other frame.

chance to compete :)

28.8 modem is plenty good for racing online but 15 fps ain't.

What kind of system do you have and what graphics options do you have

Pentium MXX 166MHz
32MB of RAM
12MB Creative Labs Voodoo 2

I've now managed to get around 30fps in training mode, by dropping off
some of the graphics and decreasing the resolution to 640 x 640.

I'm not sure about what it will drop to with other cars on the track.

Where is the VROC web site, BTW, as I would like to sign up - is it
free?

Check the detail bias slider...put it to the left. And set the mirrors
to cars only. (If you didn't already)

Only one way to find out...

Advise: read the online FAQ.

You can use another frontend to VROC, called Spy Boy. In there is a
neat chat function, which makes online racing even more fun.

And alas, it has a price.....about 5 hours sleep each night.

If you're stuck with the P166MMX(I'm stuck with my P200MMX for a while) you
should consider getting a Rendition video board. That V2 is making matters
worse with that cpu. A Rendition board would be much, much better with the
P166.

Load the app.ini file into notepad and change the SoundQuality setting
to 0. That should boost your fps a fair bit.

I'd rather spend that money on an upgrade of the processor. :)

Just about any mmx 166 will run faster without stress. Try 200... mine did (and still does
when I turn it on) 225. The extra MHz won't help a huge amount, but every little helps. I'd
also say that running with *no detail at all* in GPL is worth it if you can get closer to
36fps.

Still, if you don't like taking risks, the no-detail thing and running at 512x384 will help you
a lot.
