To put it simply, 40 bucks well spent!  The graphics, tracks, bikes, AI
were eveything I've wanted in a sim.  The Garage was easy to figure out,
and I don't even know the first thing about motorcycles or racing them.
The extras were also nice to have, the tour of the track at the start of
a race weekend was really neat.

Now if I could just figure out how to stop running into the back of my
opponets, I think I'll be fine!

I have found that if you put all the realism on.. everything except maybe
auto lean, it is great.  But what really made it much more enjoyable, was
using manual gears the clincher was putting braking power up by just 50%.
This still makes it feel realistic, but makes it a LOT more forgiving if you
miss your braking marker by 3 metres.  You can sill pull up and get around,
instead of just dropping it.  Makes it a lot less frustrating.

Right now I have brake assistant off, movement assist off, gear assist on (The
only game I have manual gears is NASCAR), and rider assistance on.  It keeps me
ahead off the competition when they are at level 1.  I havn't really tried to
drive without ride assist becuase I really wanted to jump in and race.

Strange - Nascar is the only game where I use AUTO gears...<shrug>

It looks like a great title, but what controller do you use?  I am afraid I
have nothing that would "fit" the riding experience.

Anyone using the Ducati Corse controller for motorcycle games??  I found it
on their web, and it looks interesting (it looks like a sportbike control
set), but before I splurge for an international (for me) purchase I was
wondering if anyone has actually tried it out.

I just use my joystick, allthough that appears to be going down the tubes.

I use a motorcycle-handlebars controller from Ergenic (for a glimpse, see
http://www.ergenic.com), which is similar to the Ducati.  From what I've
read of the Ducati controller, this one's cheaper and not worse.  I would
have liked to have the throttle and break on separate axes, though.  But
overall, it's the first time I've become immersed in a bike sim, thanks to
this controller.

Thanks for the tip Laurens!! I didn't even knew these kind of
controllers existed, and they're cheap too..
Do you have any idea where I can buy this wheel in the netherlands?
I tried the 'contact' button, filled in the form that I would like to
order the motorwheel, but when I pressed 'send' I got a 'could not
display page' error :(
And about this Ducati controller: Does this one have separate axis for
throttle and break? Perhaps you know an url with more info about the
Ducati controller? Yahoo search for 'ducati controller' didn't give me
any usefull links..

I use a MS FFB joystick.  The FFB in SBK2001 is quite good - you can
feel the difference between the front end and the rear end sliding.  I
disagree with the poster who says there's no grip with wheelspin, I've
got the back wheel way out of shape and still saved it.  I think the
FFB helps.
I'd think beyond the cool handlebar factor, most dedicated bike
controllers would be hopeless as they wouldn't properly model counter-
steering (the real way you steer a motorcycle).  I'd rather just model
the leaning with a joystick.
I've got all 3 EA SBK games, and SBK2001 is far and away the best.

...and you use the pedals for throttle and braking?  Is the game that good?
Like driving GPL with handlebars probably would be?? :)

It is pretty damn good. I would say that it has the best graphics of any
race sim that I have ever seen. Even at high resolution and most options on
I am getting good framerates with a mid-range PC.  The physics and handling
are quite good also though as been noted there is the very strange wheelspin
in corners which I hope they fix.

I wish EA would use the SBK2001 developer to create their F1 sims.

Sorry, I think I wasn't clear.  I meant that using a bike sim that was
really good with a wheel might be like using GPL with a handlebar
controller...once I thought about it, I realised that it would probably
still be a blast and a lot if fun and challenge...albeit a bit strange.

If my choice is to run neither bike sim because I only have a wheel
controller, I am probably depriving myself needlessly.

If I only want to buy one of them...and I am GPL freak who finds even the
physics of NASCAR Heat a bit to tame and am totally satisfied with GPL
graphics at 1280 x 1024 resolution...which one should I get?
