Soundcard Recommendations

It looks like I have to get a new sound card, and would like
recommendations.

I want to make sure that it works well with GPL (especially regarding
the joystick port), but I also have a requirement that it does a nice
job playing MIDI files.  I've heard good things about the SoundBlaster
Live card, but I've also read that it has conflicts with Voodoo2 cards
sometimes.

I have both an ISA and a PCI slot available.

My system is a Celeron 300a(o/c to 450) with 128 Megs RAM, ATI
All-in-Wonder Pro with an STB BlackMagic Voodoo2 card.

Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.

Have the SB Live! Value & I highly recommend it, especially with their 4
point speakers with GPL. I'm also running a 450A with 128Mb, G200, & Monster
8Mb voodoo2. Have had no problems at all running my T2 through it.

I  have a P2/450 with 256 MEG
ATI all in wonder Pro 8 MEG AGP
Diamond MOnster II 12 MEG
SB Live! Value.  (PCI slot)
MS FF wheel/pedals

The Live! works well with all the above

I got it for around 95$, but you may have just as good luck with an SBAWE 64
in an ISA slot.  The Live has an emulator for SB16 compatability which must
be loaded for DOS  mode and as such uses up some extra resources.  It's only
real advantage is the environmental audio stuff.  The Wave playback for MIDI
isn't that much better than my old SBAWE 32 PnP.

I agree go with the Soundblaster Live it is great, I have no problems at all,
Windows or Dos mode. The cars really scream in GPL with a good surround sound
setup and a sub.

I'm running F1RS (v1.09) with no problems on a SBLive! (full version).
Haven't tried the 3D sound patch as I heard there were problems with it
in general (not exclusive to any particular sound card).
