Need help with Aztec soundcard

Does anyone have an Aztec soundcard that is running Nascar?  A friend of mine
has this, in a Packard Bell Pentuin 75, and we have not had any luck getting
it to work.  The readme.txt files states to use SoundBlaster mono 8, tried it,
and still lockes up the system.  Tried creating autoexec.bat/config.sys for it
to run in ms-dos mode under Windows95, and everytime it gets to the beginning
screen, where it is initializing the soundcard, it locks up.

Since we can't play Hawaii over here in the U.K. ;-((, we can only multi
player race head to head, and we need more drivers to be able to call and race
against.

Any ideas, or help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Mark/Shara

I have the same setup a 75 Pentium from Packard Bell. What I had to do was restart
the computer in ms-dos mode and run the auto setup for the sound card and every-
thing worked great when running in ms-dos mode through win95.

  Good luck,

aztec or Aztech?  I will assume Aztech.

Aztech has two families of sound cards.  They have made about thirty
different models, but they fall in the two families.

They have a home page on the web.  Use YAHOO and find them.  They have
a technical bulletin which might help you.

My particular Aztech soundcard is called the Sound Galaxy II.  It
works just fine with NASCAR.  It is set up as microsoft 8 bit stereo.
I do not use FM sound.  When I tried FM sound, it sounded terrible
using this sound card.  Like a tin can or the speaker of a cheap
electronic game.

I use Aztec on a Pentium 100 and it works great.  It might have
something to do with the fact that I also use a "boot floppy" to
play NASCAR.  I couldn't get sound without it.  I believe this
frees-up the resources for NASCAR that usually Windows95 uses
from the MS-DOS prompt. Start-up your system in DOS (from the
Win95 shutdown menu) with the boot floppy in the drive.

Hello Mark/Shara (you guys need to get out more on your own :),

I've been using an Aztec card with Nascar for a long time. The only problem
I have is that the stereo channels are reversed with Nascar. Oops.
I haven't actually tried it since upgrading to Win'95, but I wouldn't expect
there to be any problems. It's definately working with indyII.

Check out the Aztech website> http://www.aztech.com.sg
although it is very slow.
There is a FAQ there which may help, plus new drivers and patches for some games
(but not nascar as far as I remember).

Regards,
James.

Samething for me as well.  Each time I wanna play the game I have to run the "setup" in
order for the sound to setup right.

This is a problem that usually occurs when you have a settings problem
with the soundcard/game.  The game thinks that the soundcard is at a
different address/irq than it actually is.  A good thing to do is to run
the soundcard's configuration program for every boot-to-dos program you
do.  Also make sure that setblaster(or whatever your card uses)= is set to
the proper configuration...  E-mail me and I can get more specific.  The
main thing to remember is that win95 does not control anything when you
boot to dos.  You must configure everything just like you are running dos
without win95.

Thanks for the info all who helped, it did the trick, seems we were trying to
run setup from the MS-DOS prompt instead of rebooting in MS-DOS mode.
Again, Many thanks.
