The move to 24-bit color

Tonight I find out how GPL looks in 24-bit color.  My new Dell arrived today
with my 64MB GeForce video card.  I realize that there are problems but I
think I am prepared for the worst.  My mirrors will be set to every other
frame and I have the OpenGL beta 2 patch from Papy.

Is there anything else I need to be aware of?

I also have high hopes for F12K with my new setup.  My Voodoo3-2000 couldn't
run it at all on my old P2-400.  I settled for a P3-866 instead of the 1Ghz
for my new system.  I did grab the 21" Trinitron for my monitor though.
Should be sweet!

Sounds like you finally have a system that will show Solitare in all
it's glory.  Have fun.

David,

Not to rain on your parade, but I never had any luck getting GPL to run in
24-bit color on a TNT or my GeForce - I think it might require 16-bit.  A
few other games had the same problem.

Other than that, your machine should scream, so enjoy it!

Just now got back on the group.  Long night moving stuff over and re-
installing.  Regarding your question - I got my boss to pick up the tab
;)  I work at home a lot (MIS).

Well,  I downloaded the NVidia 3.68 drivers and turned on "block
transfer".  GPL looks BEAUTIFUL, and the framerate is great - until I get
a GPF :(

Guess I need to experiment some more...

GeForce supports 8bit, 16bit and 32bit truecolor (24bit with alpha) ...
no 24bit.

yes, you have to set the flipping mode to "use block transfer". you'll
find it under settings/system/display/settings/advanced/additional
properties/openGL.

I have a GeForce DDR (Erazor X2), Athlon 600, 256MB and F1-2000 at
1024x768 with all details is OK in practice but more like a slideshow at
the start with 20 opponents ... this game sucks ...

whoops, I was wrong - of course its "general protection fault" as
someone posted  - I have to change my "read-type-post" to
"read-THINK-type-post" ;-)

General Protection Fault - it dates back to when Windows 3.x use to crash,
it invariably came up with that message.  The term is now used loosely for
any crash that puts up a message on screen (e.g. Invalid Page Fault, etc).

Hope this helps.

Steve.
