anyone know if there's some way or a utility to play a modem-only game
over any sort of network connection? I'm assuming the repackaged ICR2
(CART Racing) doesn't have any changes in that respect.
Thanks!
Thanks!
Are you nuts!!?? Many of us still enjoy racing this sim

The only currently active league, besides Coral, but the greatest.

No disrespect intended ;-) I've been playing the Indycar series since
the Indy 500 simulator I got with my Soundblaster Pro! Just at
scanning the subject lines for this group I see mostly "NASCAR" or
"GPL".
Thought I was the only one into "classic" Indycar sims!
I've seen the downloads for carsets and updated sounds but do you know
if anyone's been able to update engine and chassis specs?

PS. doesn't have to be a 386, just the need for a 2nd computer (no fancy
displays) with minimal "horsepower"
I have to admit, you lost me here. If you're asking how many people
would play ICR2 on TEN/Pogo.com/whatever like with NASCAR Racing, I
doubt that'll happen. The apparent lack of movement on anything ICR
since ICR2's release in what, 1995?, pretty much kept me from asking
Sierra.
For me, I was just looking to see if anyone had heard of a way to get
ICR2 to work using IPX or something other than a modem-to-modem
connection. Just trying to keep out of the long-distance charges for
a modem hookup!

Currently ICR2 only speaks to the outside world via serial port or modem.
This communication would need to be converted to TCP/IP to be used across
the internet.
The only way I see that happening is with a 2nd cheap computer connected to
both the Race computer, and the internet.
Since you're talking about long-distance charges, we can assume IPX (Lan)
racing is not your goal, the internet is.
Would you mind throwing some more hints/tips from your Hawaii-like
project my way on what I might need to accomplish this? I'm not
expecting success but I'm willing to hammer away at it. Feel free to
e-mail me directly.
My thought with the IPX thing was that there're a few of those IPX
over TCP/IP software (Kahn, Kali, etc) that if I could get ICR2 to
communicate IPX, I could interface with those. But I guess it would
make more sense just to get ICR2 to somehow communicate over TCP/IP
and be done with it.
There's something out there called IHHD that looked promising but it's
intended for DOS games (at least that's what it looks like).

Connection type <---a---> would be a null modem between ICR2 and the 2nd
computer.
Connection type <---b---> would be a dialup to the internet.
If that works out, the next step is:
ICR2 <---a---> (converter) <---b---> Internet
ICR2 <---a---> (converter) <---b---> Internet
ICR2 <---a---> (converter) <---b---> Internet
ICR2 <---a---> (converter) <---b---> Internet
ICR2 <---a---> (converter) <---b---> Internet
ICR2 <---a---> (converter) <---b---> Internet
etc
Internet
<---c---> Custom Host
Where the host can multiplex multiple ICR2 clients into the same race.
Connection type <---c---> would be high speed internet service
