SODA demo won't load properly

I just bought the BGN expansion pak and it came with a copy
of the soda demo.  I installed it but it boots up, the
screen is scrambled; it appears to be multiple images of the
same thing.

I don't have a 3d video card (I know; how archaic); I have a
trident PCI 1 mb card.  The readme file said to put /s after
the execute statement to keep the game from looking for 3d,
but that didn't work either.

Any suggestions?  Or am I out of luck til I buy a new board?
