I was going backwards anyway, being stuck with the default rookie setup.
Hadn't raced at Homestead before so I didn't have the correct race setup
loaded in a race session, was in the garage trying to load a decent setup it
when I got dropped into the car to start the pace lap. That aspect of
choosing setups is very poor compared to NR2003, where you can lock in your
Qual & Race setups from one screen.
Speaking of setups, the supposed diff lock fix in the patch is simply the
change to the power side setting in the default setup files that everyone
was already doing, and not in the HDV file. So you can still override it
and run an open diff by manually editing the setup files.
No doubt this patch solved some problems, but it's gonna take a few more at
this rate.

This is EA. They rarely ever release more than 1 patch that I can recall
for other titles.The next patch will be NSR 2006.

I guess we call this the "Rules" patch. Maybe there will be an acutal "FIX"
patch eventually.
