New Logitech Wheels !!!

See http://www.racesimcentral.net/ ...

I was waiting and waiting and... to change my old TM wheel... Yeehee, a
new one!
It s that great ? :

"Logitech (...) will be shipping the WingMan? Formula(TM) GP and
Formula(TM) Force GP Racing Wheels in July."

not too far away...

"By offering gamers two great solutions, including a force-feedback
option, we re giving those who consider racing wheels a luxury two
affordable alternatives"

oups... i'm ok to pay for a good wheel! ok, if it's great and cheap,
it's ok too!

"WingMan Formula Force GP
The Logitech WingMan Formula Force GP, the new standard in USB
force-feedback racing wheels, replaces the WingMan Formula Force with a
similar feature set but at a significantly lower price."

that's clear! and prices of the WingMan Formula Force will decrease...

"For those who like to put the pedal to the metal, the Formula Force GP
offers realistic gas and brake pedals, a weighted pedals base and a
non-slip textured floorboard."

New ones ??????

Someone has another site about this ??????????

Sounds like procrastination just might pay off for me.  Now if that
lower price doesn't translate into more build-quality issues like when
they moved production from Malaysia to China...

The article at simracingnews is simply the logitech press release at
http://www.logitech.com/cf/about/pressRelease.cfm/200
reposted verbatim.

Guess we'll all just have to hang in there until the reviewers get
their prerelease units...

Im not sure about the press release.

Basically they are scrapping the WIngman FF for a cheaper unit?  Im not
happy, since it means they have to cut back somewhere.  Production,
material, service, etc...

I'm impressed...My LWFF feels better today than it did in November of '98
when I bought it. If the new wheels are built as well, I'll have one. I
think the price drop has more to do with the fact that they have experience
with this technology now, and they have a better idea of what their market
will be and how many units they should expect to sell. They should have paid
off their R&D costs by now and their only real expense is for the design
upgrades. We can only pray that they have done something about those dismal
pedals!

Damn, E3 is 10 minutes from my house and I can't get in...can anybody
help<g>

Still, a picture would have been nice. Same number of buttons, so I suspect
the insides of the wheel are the same.

The price really isn't lower... That's what I paid for my Formula
Force almost a year ago from buy.com.

New Logitech Wheels !!!

Based on the pictures the pedal base looks smaller but the pedals look
better (they don't look like cheapo plastic).  The wheel looks worse to me.
I like the full ***ized wheel.  It's the most comfortable wheel I've ever
used.  I also Like the large paddles which you can see through the front of
the old wheel.  Judging from the photo the paddles are different and
possibly smaller.

To the other poster, cheaper usually means lower quality for harware of this
nature.  There is not the economies of scale associated with a wheel as
there are with other computer components.  It just doesn't look better to me
and I'm worried it was too expensive for the masses so they cheaped out and
made a lower quality wheel :-(.  I know it's only a picture but I know every
inch of my wheel and the changes do not visually appear like an improvement.

Hmmm, I wonder if the red/yellow portions are the *** bits, and the
remainder of the wheel is a cost-cutting hollow bit (a la the hollow
Microsoft product)?

I hope it isn't just a cheaper (read "shoddier") version of the LWFF.  If
so, I might start looking to buy another of the current versions just to
save for the future.  I'm very happy with the one I have.

I'll be reading the reviews and newsgroup very closely for this one.

The pedals look to have a very short range.

Gamecenter had a hands-on preview of the new Logitech FF controllers,
but not alot of info.  They did mention that Logi have abandoned the
cable-drive system for something new, more compact, and still secret.
