Hi,
Last week I finally persuaded myself into buying F1, but I'm not sure if
it was very good choice. If any of you know or think anything about the
stuff below, please reply.
One thing I'd like to get rid off first is the choppy sound and video.
Whenever the commentary comes in and 5+ cars go by there is a very
annoying distortion in the engine sound (drop-outs, popping, cracking).
I switched drivers, ued vanilla directX30a drivers but to no avail.
Video is also not what I'd expect of my hardware (p166 o/c to 188, 3dfx
at 57 Mhz etc. etc.). All circuits seem to suffer from annoying pauses,
about every second or so. The framerate inbetween is fluid, but if
the game pauses that much there is little realism left (or isn't there
any in the game anyway, apart from visuals?! ;).
None of my other software seems to suffer from this, with just a few
minor desktop utilities running in the background. Shutting those down
didn't help anyway.
Any idea how this could improve? Sure the game looks great, but not at
these instable framerates. Most 3dfx stuff flies across my screen, but
F1 certainly doesn't...
Oh, some other info. I'm using SB16 drivers from creative labs, latest
version, directx compatible. Diamond drivers v1.07 and glide 2.31 rt
from 3fdx. Using Hercules Dynamite 128/Video for 2d.
Any help apprecriated. I'd also like to hear if others experience this
too.
Thanks,
Edo
