Official Papyrus product clarification:

(P.S.: Im not happy, but I don't complain).

The NASCAR Racing 1999 Edition is based on the NASCAR 2 engine but it
will include many new features and enhancements. All of the tracks have
been updated to 1998 specs, including new tracks such as Las Vegas, the
reconfigured Atlanta, Sears Point, Texas, and Darlington. The game will
ship with 34 tracks in all, including the 1998 teams for NASCAR's top 3
series. For the first time we will have full support for the NASCAR

Craftman Truck series including new truck physics, tracks (Pikes Peak,
Homestead, Memphis, etc.) and truck rules.

NASCAR Racing 1999 Edition will be Win95 native, and have enhanced
support for 3dfx-based accelerators. There will also be many graphical
and AI improvements, including double file restarts.

There will be no NASCAR Craftman Truck add on to NASCAR 2.

NASCAR Racing 3 / NASCAR Racing 2000 Edition is still on schedule for Q2
1999. The name has not been officially decided yet, but this is the
NASCAR product to be based on the Grand Prix Legends engine.

I hope that clears up the confusion. The PR position at Papyrus has been
vacant for some time, so the information flow has been inconsistent and
inaccurate.

Though "others" may want Papy to get back to their "roots"... I think
it's more of a situation where Papy wants to go where the $$'s are. And,
like or not, the future racing $$'s in the US will Nascar dollars for
the forseeable future. True, CART is the most popular form of open
wheeled racing in the US, but still nowhere near the attendance figures
of Nascar. Perhaps the Papy sales figures for Indy/ICR1/ICR2 can be
compared to the sales of N1/N2/BGN to more fully understand this. Thus,
even though some may not like it, I think you'll see their reasoning.

BTW, didn't Papy and Sierra separate or something?

You sure about that Bruce?  I can't recall whether it was in the
so-called "official" statment by Papyrus/Sierra about their upcoming
racing titles.  As for me, I hope so... but with all the shake ups at
Papyrus/Sierra of late... I'm wondering...

well, that list they gave out was a list of titles coming up within
a year or so. But since ICR3/CART2/Whatevertheywanttocallit is probably
a minimum of 1 year away, then it doesn't fall into the "upcoming"
category.

Only going by what they have said, that CART3 is on the schedule.
But, as you rightly say, that may well have changed!

From Papyrus's announcment.

Nascar Racing 99      Q498
Nascar Racing 3/2000   Q299

N3 was not going to be ready in time and since they backed it up so they could
work on it more, they are giving us something pretty damn good to play with untill
N3 gets here.
