You heard wrong.  No CART sims are forthcoming that I know of, but we
will definitely something that features Indy-style cars in the near
future:

Not so cheesy, actually -- some die-hard ICR2 fans have actually
stated that they found this game (which was actually titled "ABC Indy
Racing:  The Road To Indy") to be superior to ICR2 in some ways (the
cars can actually get airborne to a certain extent, which indicates
some sophistication in the physics modeling area).  The sim
overpowered the machines and video cards at the time; D3D was just
arriving, as were the cards that supported it.  It had the same
problems as GP2 did in the hardware area, in fact; on a modern 300 MHz
machine with a good video card and the steering tweak utility, the
sim's actually pretty fun.

Enjoy!

Well, I can always dream, can't I? I remember day dreaming three or four years
ago that it would be really cool to have a game that let you race cars from the

but I bet four years ago none of us really thought a game like GPL would be so
good.

And as for Tony George, I plan on trying to find whoever put the curse on the
Kennedys. Whoever it was who struck that family could be very helpful in
resolving the CART IRL split. Again, I can dream can't I?

Cheers,
Eric Brighton

Actually, there have been at least 3 CART sims since the breakup, and a 4th
due very soon: CART Precision Racing, Newman-Haas Racing and the re-release
of the patched ICR2 as CART Racing. Sega also has a CART game due for
release soon.

If this is true then it's sad to see them forgetting their open wheel
fan-base  & European customers.

How can you guys *** so much? I understand that everyone wants a new
CART sim, but come on! Papy gives you GPL, and you still complain?
'Forgetting their open wheel fan base'? Um, excuse me, but isn't GPL
'OPEN WHEEL'? ICR2 is still good - with some patches. Give them a break,
they've been working constant on a sim a year (practically). They've
pretty much listened to us and our wishes. (I don't want to start a
flame war with threads like 'Papyrus Never Listens') When do they get a
break? I'm sure they've heard everyone wants ICR3. (Well, most of us)
They'll get around to it. In the meantime - why don't you grill EA or
Ubi-Soft for one...

I would sort of attribute it to the Sierra buyout...holding off on a
GPL-based NASCAR is just Sierra BS.  Just about every other Papy game was
released well before PCs were available that could run them with any real
speed.  Sierra just wants them to milk ye olde N2 engine.  I betcha if Papy
still had any real say,  we'd be beggin for NASCAR 4 and ICR5... :)
