A Rally round p of the WRC season was on Eurosport a few days ago. While
watching a lot of the time on a lot of rallies, spectators were filling the
track, ducking out of the way as the car comes and then quickly fill the
track again, madness!

Fans in southern Europe (Portuguese, Italians and Greeks) are without doubt
the craziest , standing in the middle of the road just after a jump for
example. Mind you , Fangio used to hate the Mille Miglia for the same reason
so it's not limited to rallying alone . Moss said he used to play with the
steering wheel to make the fans think he'd lost control . Didn't do him any
harm when he won it in '55

A valid excuse, since in the '98 New Zealand rally he mowed down an
idiot
spectator who thought he could get a good picture from the apex of a
corner
that McRae was cut by a huge amount. The spectator got himself a broken
leg, damn lucky not to get any worse!

I didn't knew that.. I can't have the least bit of mercy for that
spectator..

Buy the 98 review, all of a sudden McRae comes around a corner and you see a
guy do a big flip and a piece of McRae's car falls off. He clipped the guys
right leg and he flipped SO FAST.

Thanks,
Alex

I've been watching rallying since I was born since my dad is from Kenya, so
it almost doesn't seem crazy anymore, and I'm American! Anyways, if you go
to any rallies here in the US, the spectators stand in safe spots (not in
run-off areas) and few feet from the road because of sue happy people here.
Anyways, there's nothing more thrilling than a rally car sliding past your
toes at 100mph!

Thanks,
Alex

I stood next to the fence at an Indy car race...the power of those cars
flying by was unbelievable. Can't imagine standing next to the cars at a
rally, must be one helluva rush.
