Hi All,
I have a friend/customer (Oh yeah, the old "I have a friend story" :-))
that wants to (I'm quoting him now, so it's ethically OK right??..) "Sit my
fat a$$ in a comfy recliner & race Funny Cars on my TV." How would this best
be accomplished?
First decision: Burnout(PCE) or NHRA? Seems Burnout has more fans here,
plus 3dfx, but is missing Pro Funny Cars. I see it has IO/FC, but this
customer wants to race the pros, has (Can) anyone make pro carsets, are
these available for D/L?? Is NHRA /that/ bad, am I gonna be embarassed
recommending it to someone who is Drag-literate & has done some racing many
years ago? Or is it decent, just tooo arcady for most here?? Do both offer
In-Car views now? Is there an NHRA demo anywhere? (I've been playing the
Burnout demo for the last few nights, it's fun. Question by me: How come
sometimes the engine "Clears out" by 2/3 run & I can do High 8's, other
times it stays "Loaded-up", sputtery, missing, crappy & I'm lucky to break a
low 10??)
Second Decision: Video Card? He really wants this on the 31". So I need
to spec a TV out card, right? So, should/can a 3dfx card do this? What about
NHRA not being 3dfx supported? will the TV out still work in the card? Any
other ideas or suggestions, I will gladly accept any help.
Third decision: Controller? Remember, he wants to be sitting in a
recliner :-) My first inclination is a cheapo- V3 wheel. Only because it
seems to be the most "lap friendly" & has lots of wheel mounted buttons, can
it be used without the pedals? Do either of these sims have a compatibility
prob with the V3, or any other controller? I've read a couple reviews that
say they are faster with the keyboard than with a wheel (Just proves
something I've thought about drag racers for a while now anyway ;-)))) Is
this true? What about a gamepad?
Anything else I should consider? I know Burnout is, but is NHRA On-line
capable? Are either of these LAN-able? Thanks for any and all answers either
here or direct.
Happy Lappin',
