Try setting the driver type in audio.ini:
type=winmm
The default type is empty (autodetect) and that probably uses dsound.
WinMM is not preferable but some people seem to have succes with it
and not even a big delay in the sound as well.
Hope that helps,

During the last versions of Racer I had a controller problem where when
I turn left, the car turned right. I fixed that by rewiring the steering
pot in reverse. I still have a problem with no brakes though. Odds are
it's also a wiring problem and I won't know until I attempt it. In the mean
time, now that the steering works, It seems to be a digital steering where
the slightest twitch to the wheel turns the front wheel to the full lock
position. I'm currently using the generic input device listed in the Racer
Config app. I'll try others and see what happens.
Home made 4 axis, 2 button controller system running through the SB Live
game port.
steering on one axis,
brake on #2,
gas on #3,
clutch on #4,
two buttons for shifting
OOPS, skip that bit with the steering. I loaded up the 2001 F1 Ferrari
where I can see the front wheels deflect L/R. They are analog after all .
The other two cars, The sedan and the default Ferrari felt wrong and I can
only assume it might be with the chassis setup(?)

Does the axis show up in the Control Peeker? And as what axis?
The control set files are really quite flexible; I can mix several
controllers, use 2 wheels (I have an MSFF and an ActLabs ForceRS with
Shifter), whatever, as my controller config.

This exe plays the sound differently; the original one used a
hardcoded channel starting at 0, which doesn't seem appropriate when
there's a hardware audio board inside the machine. Read about this
problem on the FMod forum, and this patched exe works here (but I
don't have an SBLive, just a regular SB16 supercheapovalue-edition).
Might solve that problem.

Doesn't that give you brakes? There's an info screen btw (press ^I
repeatedly until you get to controllers) which may display the
throttle/braking in a percentage.

Ruud, you can go on using those w2k cd's as beer coasters. ;-)
