System Requirements for N2?

one thing with my system i noticed with nascar2 (i have same system as
above but have a 4mb matrox millenium) is that i have much more speed
now with 64mb ram (edo) than i did with only 32.  game is way smoother
and replays are for the whole race!!!

have fun with the new beauty.

i am going to buy a new system, primarily to run Nascar 2
i need advice on what to buy in order to run full graphics
in SVGA mode in fluid motion. specifically, processor?
ram? video? sound? wheel? other considerations?
i am a computer and an N2 novice, so i'm in much
need of help from this knowledgeable group.
thanks a bunch for your reply... ds in nashville, tn

Hey DS, I'm in Nashville as well. I would highly recommend getting as much
system as you can buy. Go with one of the big 3 direct companies, Dell,
Micron, Gateway. I highly recommend Dell, I have had great success with
them, and love my 233 mmx system. One of my teamates has the same system
from Micron, and is very pleased with his as well. You can go to each of
their websites, custom configure your system, and have your price right
there. I ordered mine on a Sunday from the same page, and received my
system the following Friday.
If I we're buying a new one today, I'd try to go with the 266mhz PII, 64 mb
sdram, 17" monitor, acs 490 surround sound speakers w/subwoofer. Don't
worry too much about the video card, go with the cheapest, but order ya a
good 3dfx or rendition card, or both, to replace it with. I did not get the
biggest hard drive I could, to help save money there, can always add a
second one later.

Forgot to mention, if your primarily running N2, go with the rendition
video card first, the Sierra Screamin 3d is a great one, have had mine for
a year now, no problems at all. I know there's a lot of talk of the new
second generation video cards, I can't comment on them, but if you want the
latest and greatest they may be the way to go.

Hi ds...

As for what system will run full N2, I can tell you that mine does.  As
for the items that make/break games, here's what it is:

P233MMX; 32 Meg sdram; QDI TX Motherboard; S3 Virge Vid Card;
Soundblaster AWE 64.

I took the "cheapest" vid card route, and intend to wait until the dust
settles before I replace it. With my system, I can run a full field, and
every texture and have a smooth frame rate.  Once you get to see all the
neat stuff that's in the game, and once you experience how much easier
it is to drive when it's smooth, you'll never want to go back!  Good
luck!

Have Fun!

System Requirements for N2?

Hi Steve,
I was in the same boat for a looong time with a 486/100.  Couldn't run any of
the newer software. And N2 framerate was terrible with more than a few cars and
a couple graphic options turned on.  So after checking ALL the local computer
shops and online computer sites I ordered a Dell.  It's taking awhile to get
here Christmas crunch time and a few optional components slowed the process
down.  At any rate-- it will rock when I finally get behind the drivers seat of
my Ford opps I mean Dell PII 266, 64 meg SDRAM, 6.4 gig ultra wide HD, STB 4
meg AGP video (will switch to the newer ones coming out eventually), Altec 495
surround sound, SB64 sound card, 20" monitor (17.9 viewable), 12/24x CD,
standard software package.
I can't wait!
Like I said I searched high and low and couldn't beat a Dell.  That is unless
your into building your own.
Hope this helps at least a little...
