T2 stop will not work with new computer.

Just got a new Gateway G6-350 that has a RIVA 128 video board.
The sound card is a Sound Blaster AudioPCI 64D.

I am trying to get IndyCar II and Grand Prix II running on this
machine but I cannot get my T2 to work. The sound does not work either.

Any one get these to work with a new Gateway?

Are you running in a dos box, or straight dos?  Sound does work in windows
doesn't it?  I can't see gateway sending out a faulty brand new computer.

The PCI 64D has got the WORST joystick port around. Gateway recommend using the
very early drivers that are buried somewhere on their System 2.5 CD. After three
driver updates from Creative I personally gave up and installed a Monster
MX300.Never had any sound problems with the 64D though......

Oh..and another thing. I could never get a dedicated game card working in the
same PC as a PCI 64D even if you disable it's joystick port.

It's because both GP2 and ICR2 are dos games.
Most PCI soundcards don't work under dos
(Some do but most don't). It has nothing to do
with a bad Gateway PC, it's just GP2 and ICR2
are to outdated, they cannot use the latest
technology....

Hmm, I don't think this is true.  I've never
come across a PCI sound card that didn't work
in DOS.  PCI or ISA shouldn't make a difference.
The only important settings are for the
IRQ, DMA and memory address.

Then again, I just bought a SB Live card, and
haven't tested it in DOS.  It will work, won't
it?

I just found this out the hard way. I installed a soundBlaster Live
Value over the weekend. The I found out you couldn't run any dos racing
sims. So how do I run ICR2? Can you have two soundcards?

Damn.  Is this really true?  No DOS games on SB live?

Joel,
The best way to run ICR2 would be to get the upgrades from the Papyrus
website that convert it to the Win95 native version.  You lose rendition
specific acceleration (or at least I did), but the engine is old enough any
reasonably powerful computer on the market today will run it ~30fps without
acceleration. (Mine is an AMD 350 w/ a V550 and it consistently turns 27 -
35fps with the full field running).

No it's NOT true.The Live has  SB16 emulation,works fine with GP2,ICR2
etc. in DOS.

Are you trying to run from pure DOS or from Windows ( and I assume it'll
be 98).
With my SB PCI64, GP2 runs fine both from DOS (DOS98, for fat32) and Win98.
If you can't get GP2 to run from Windows, I suspect that the drivers have
not been properly installed.

No it's not, at least not when running in a DOS window, I use an SB live
for NROS and TPTCC N2, no problems at all, and when I reboot to DOS it
loads some SB16 settings and drivers, but I haven't really tried that
part yet

I am running pure DOS. I refuse to run Win95 or Win98.

I have been running them on my older Compaq 75mhz Pentium (pure DOS) with no
problems except that GP2 needs much more horse power to be playable.

Both Sims will run on the Gateway but I get no sound and most importantly
the T2 does not work.  I have to use the keyboard instead.

T2 stop will not work with new computer.

by Ren?? van Lobbere » Sun, 28 Mar 1999 04:00:00

I have the 'advantage' of running Win and installing drivers for new cards
that way. For my PCI64 there are also DOS drivers installed. So, all I
can do at this stage is getting you to the next step in getting your
card to function in DOS (though it might already be complete)
For what comes next I have to assume that Gateway did supply you with
the original PCI64 CD, If you don't have these files on neither your HD
nor a CD, then you should contact your supplier.

Try to locate the file APINIT.COM on your harddisk. If you find it, then
the following files should be in that directory :
APCONFIG.EXE
APINIT.COM
APLEGACY.EXE
APLOAD.EXE
APMIXER.EXE
APTEST.EXE
AUDIOPCI.BIN
DOS4GW.EXE
MT32.EXE
Otherwise try to find them on the CD , create a directory like C:\PCI64
and put them in that directory.

Next copy the files SNDSCAPE.INI and EAPCI2M.ECW from the CD to the directory.
Edit the file SNDSCAPE.INI and change the last paragraph to :
; Waveset - path and file name of current waveset
SynthFile=C:\PCI64\EAPCI2M.ECW

Make sure you run EMM386 (required by APINIT) and add the following to
your autoexec.bat :
SET BLASTER=A220 I5 D1 T2
SET SNDSCAPE=C:\PCI64
C:\PCI64\APINIT

Ofcourse you may need to fiddle around with the IRQ's, etc. As you will notice
there are settings in SNDSCAPE.INI for emulation of a Soundblaster Pro, this is
also the choice to make in GP2 (and probably ICR2, I don't have that) and it
should then be able to autodetect.
You can also try how the other apps in C:\PCI64 can be of help to you.
In other games/apps you can also select Soundscape instead of SB PRo, in
Transport Tycoon Deluxe I even *had* to, and it gave me a totally new experiance
of the ingame music.

Hope this helps so far, and I hope you'll get it running,
Bye
