Subject: BROWN BAG RACING!!!!!
No Fords, Chevies or Pontiac's, sort of makes me glad i drive and
Infinity..
Well as i predicted about 4 months ago, that we might get NASCAR 99
without
any makes or models, its appears true now.
So why dont we just trash the ICON's and start running the generics
cars,
and tracks. When I predicted that the future of simulations would be
generic
racing I got alot of heat and from some game developers and sim racers.
But look at what we have now a racing game without
makes and models. Of Course this could only happen in a video game,
wrong
you'll see it in movies or on TV next. The arguement of free
advertising doesnt
fly.
Well here are my solutions for the whole mess as its not only affecting
NASCAR
racing, but all forms. And corporate america take notice lately of the
success of
GPL. GPL has been by far the most talked about game this year on the
news
groups. So we dont have to have names, tags, titles and key
associations
anymore, contrary to what some game developers said. I was told by one
that
wanted to do NASCAR. We cant do it Sierra has the Label. Well GPL has
proven one thing on that theory, it was dead wrong. If its a good
product the
people will buy it. So its time to regroup. That means sim game buyers
and
game developers. I believe Sierra has figured this out and told GM and
FORD where to stick it...
This is my plan to fast track products to the marketplace, reduce
development
cost by millions. Lets just call it Brown Bag Racing.. hehe
1). Drop all associations from game titles that are unreasonable and
demanding
outrageous royalties.
2). Drop all car manufactures for game titles that are unreasonable
and demanding
outrageous royalties. There is nothing at all Chevy about Gordon's
Chevy. Hick
lets put in a Hendricks Chasis, works for me.. Sierra did it.. I wish
they had
added the real NASCAR chasis builder to make their point!!!
3). Drop all tracks from game titles that are unreasonable and
demanding
outrageous royalties. We have Bull Run and NEC Dome. We can build
good
tracks.
If we can control the roylaties for 1, 2, and 3 we can control the cost
of the video
game. I would rather see the money in Sierra's pocket than General
Motors.
General Motors and Ford have really stuck it to us!!!!
4).. PAINTED CARSETS !! -- Use the Resources on Internet. I have
never seen a painted car from a
Papyrus, Sierra, MircoProse, Microsoft, or Bethesda that comes close to
the
quality of cars and carsets from INTERNET.. If I was Tony Johns I'd
leave
Papyrus and start my own painted cars for sale. I would certainly help
the
likes of Johns and Mpete. We can get all the cars we want and we dont
have to pay corporate people.. Not to mention that Game Developers
could
work an alliance with Internet Groups to provide cars. We are doing a
project
now at www.whra.com to provide 22 carsets of 100 cars each or 2200 cars
and they are free....
5). TRACKS.... Turn the track exporter over to the INTERNET and let us
build our own chasis to the specifications of the physics engine.. We
can
build better tracks anyways.... Here again there are no roylaties paid
out if they arent resonable.
6). PHYSICS ENGINES. This is really the last area of expertise that
the game developers have, but really for how long.
7). INTEGRATION and DISTRIBUTION.. The game developers do
a good job of putting the pieces together. We get manual , cd-rom and
QA. But there are lots of people on the INTERNET that can do this.
8).. Racing Servers and On-Line Communications for competition. Here
is a area where game developers can do a good job.. But now with
800 Internet, something that Papyrus didnt have or HAWAII would
still be here. This is a service that Game developers can do !!! Funny
Thing is that game developers today have to know alot about
graphics, eye candy and AI. But these same companies have to
have staff and expertise in on-line ***. I find few companies that
even can comprehend this...!!!
Well Now its time to turn the SOAP BOX off. But this is not me ragging
as much as its just saying the way it is and what can be done next.
