SCGT Slowdown??

SCGT Slowdown??

Something i've noticed since getting back into scgt is when the pits are
visible with any AI cars, the framerate drops to around 8fps! :( This is
extremely frustrating as the rest of the track runs perfect. I have a
celeron 374 with a voodoo3 2000, IMSA, Touring car and a few other patches
installed. And a heap of 3rd party cars. The problem is it does it with the
original install. Also the brakes seem ultra touchy, push the pedal a bit
past 1/4 of the stroke and the brakes lock up, making it unbelievable and
unrealistic to drive ( I have the Advance Options Editor). Thanks for any
help

You probably have some cars that are very high in polygons...When you get
to the pits, it overloads the cpu/vidcard and brings things to a crawl.  I
had terrible times with Road Atlanta and this problem.  Most likely you'll
have to
turn off a few graphic items, reduce the field,  or both...I have a PIII 500
and at times it gets bogged down too.

If you have a Logitech wheel, then your probably just stuck with the same
lousy pedals I have.  The easiest solution is to add ABS brakes to your car.
It makes up for the touchy brake pedal.

That would be it, thanks heaps :).. Guess a 1ghz athlon and geforce 2 are on
the cards :) Even tho i dont like abs, hopefully that will fix my problem,
the pedals are terrible on LWFF.

There are two things to consider; first is that the rear view mirror
with the cheesy frame is an unbelieveable drain of FPS! Loose it and use
an unframed mirror, and FPS will be much higher.

Second thing, I believe you are using the Glide option for the game.
Don't, as it seems to limit the texture memory, and explains the
slowdown when many cars are around. Use Direct3D instead.

When I try to use D3d, I always get cube errors.  I have only the
1.551 official patch installed.

Any idea how to eliminate this?

There is a patch (vailable at the Pits), which reduces the size of the
mirror and greatly improves fps. It's a must for SCGTers with lower
end hardware, such as myself.
