The portrait of Ayrton Senna da Silva ( 1960 - 1994 ), hangs in my study
over my computer,
together with a portrait of my late wife and portraits of my family.

Need I say more?

Thank you for the poignant tribute to Ayrton Senna da Silva ( 1960 - 1994 ),
somewhat spoiled by silly bickering.

Ayrton holds dear in my affections not only for all the pleasure and
e***ment he gave me and countless other true F1 fans, but also ( and more
importantly ) for the gifts of compassion, happiness and hope that
he bestowed upon the poorer children of Brasil.

Kindest Regards

Colin.

You are quite right in what you say but get used to it buddy. It's a sad
fact of life that a large number of people will take a pop at you for
whatever reason in here.  A croc skin helps <G>.

did anyone see the induction of ayrton into the international motor racing
hall of fame at talladega last week on speedvision. it was very touching to
see the respect shown by the likes of aj foyt , mario andretti and
especially don prudhomme, who became visibly moved when speaking of ayrton.
eddie cheever spoke for several minutes about racing with ayrton and the
whole room was deafeningly quiet. be sure to watch if they will replay.

I'll defend him...
Yes, he was polite.  He did ask nicely if he had missed something.  How was
that an insult to Ayrton?  Maybe he only got interested in F1 in the past year
or so, and really DOESN'T know who Ayrton Senna was...  Some people *don't*,
you know.  I didn't know who Colin McRae was until the game came out.  Would I
have been insulting if I had asked who he was...?

Geez, this place is getting as bad as a kindergarden schoolground...

What an awful weekend that was.

First Barrichello's crash (which could have been far worse than it was)
on the Friday.

Then Roland Ratzenberger (who tends to get forgotten) dying on the
Saturday. That accident certainly affected Senna a great deal - people
who were around when he went to visit the site say they'd never seen
him so agitated before. I remember hearing about the accident on the
car radio on my way back from the "Classic & Sportscar" show.

And then Sunday. I was watching the race live, already in a pretty
sombre state owing to what had gone before. Accident at start with
Lamy. Safety car out. Race restarted. Williams flying into barrier.
Waited, as you do, for driver to climb out and for Murray to give his
normal "testament to today's F1 cars" speech. Except this time it
didn't happen.

Roland Ratzenberger : 04/07/62 - 30/04/94
Ayrton Senna : 21/03/60 - 01/05/94

In memory.

Hi!

What makes me so sad is that people seem to have forgotten Roland
Ratzenberger who
perished during the same weekend with Senna.  He, too, might have been a
great driver
had his life been longer.  Alas, since that weekend no one will ever know...

Amen to that. I went to a race a couple of weeks ago, saw some very
*** accidents, and realized (again) that day the heavy risks
involved in real life racing.

What makes me sad is that people forget the deaths of many great, fair
absolute racers, but remember a tantrum throwing tosser who rammed others off
the road.
