*Bump drafting*??  In GPL?  Boy, if that don't sound like fun!  I may have to set me
up an F3 driver profile & start practicing, so I can join you guys.  Seems dangerous
in GPL though.  The way they like to sometimes over-react when you touch something.
I'm sure it takes a real light touch.  Richard Petty would love this stuff.  ;-)

The CART Champ cars have had a great deal of their downforce taken
away.  On a course like Portland, you "should" see faster times from the
Champ cars, but if you really want to see the difference go back about 5
years, those cars could drive through the tunnel at Monaco, on the
ceiling/upside down.  Same for the F1 cars.  Go back 10 years to the
1000+hp Turbo cars.
The comparison I've always wanted to see would be to compare the lap
times at a large track(Indy, Talladega) between open wheel variants and
the closed wheeled GTP, LMS cars.  I have heard the open tires on the
champ cars produce big gobs of drag.  The old tiny-motored AAR Toyota
Eagle IMSA cars were thought to be faster than Indy cars of the same
time period...It would make for an interesting article.

Continuing the off topic thread of speed. Road and Track (I think) Did a
speed test between a Winston Cup Car and a Porsche GTP car. They ran the
cars on a giant test track, looking for all out speed. I know the WC car was
the Late Tim Richmond's Folger's Monte Carlo, the Porsche... I can't recall.
But anyway.. this was done. Maybe a look on the R&T site will help, or
someone else remembers this issue.

Yes, I remember the article.  The WC car won, because it was set up
for superspeedways, and the GTP wasn't.  They never could remove
enough downforce/drag from the GTP car to get it to top speed, nor was
it clear they had tall enough gears.  They also had extra drag from
the too-wide tires.  IIRC, there wasn't that much HP difference
between them.
